Ice Age 4: Continental Drift

Ice Age movie series are about friendships which last through the hard times. They are about love of family and band between family members. Ice age movies are for all ages from baby to grandpa, they aren’t so long, so they’ll be just perfect for families with children.

Main characters in the Ice Age 4 Continental Drift film are Manny the mammoth, Diego the saber-toothed tiger, Sid the sloth, Ellie (mammoth), Peaches (Manny’s and Ellie’s daughter), Crash and Eddie (opossums, Ellie’s brothers) and also Scrat (squirrel).
Ice Age Continental Drift movie starts with scene where the same old obsessed squirrel starts continental drift with his acorn, surprisingly continental drift starts when the squirrel tries to hide acorn to the ground, but suddenly ground underneath him starts to crack, and next thin squirrel knows he’s in the earth’s core. While he tries to reach his acorn the core starts to move, and while he’s moving the core he separates continental plates. The following results Manny ends up on ice floe with Diego, Sid and Sid’s crazy grandmother and they drift away from Manny’s wife and daughter and after all from their homes to the open sea.
In the sea they face with the pirates, who tries to kidnap them. In a fight they get a hint how to get back home. When Manny, Sid and Diego gets to the turning point back home, they again meet pirates. And for getting back home they have to get pass the pirates and steal their ship, which isn’t so easy, so they confederate with quokkas (little animals living in the turning point). As the story goes on Manny, Sid, Diego and Sid’s mother gets the pirate’s ship and are heading back to home for family reunion. After sailing over the sea when they finally get back home, but the pirates have got there faster and kidnapped Manny’s family. Manny fights for his family with little help and wins the bad guys. After the battle Manny and all the others realize that their home has gone they’ll head to the new place to live. And that where the story ends, expect Scrat’s story. Scrat has sailed over the sea to find Acorn island. In the Acorn island is this giant acorn as a symbol and as a cork for the sea, so it would not drain away. But as you may see where this is going – Scrat unplugs the acorn cork and the whole sea will drain away and this is the explanation (from the movie writers) how Sahara has come in to as it is now days.

Ice age 4 teaches us about how important family is and how much effort you have to put on it. It describes family reunion and how difficult it might be to be able to reach your love ones from far away and to get back to them. I think this movie tries to describe families whose members are faraway on a mission or in service in Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa or in some other place and how hard it is sometimes to be without them and how desperately  families just want to be together.

Ice Age 4 was pleasure to watch and I personally could rave about it and I will definitely recommend it to everybody. Thank you for reading this article, hope you got the good view of the movie.

Police Academy

Police academy is a comedy film made in 1984 which was directed by Hugh Wilson and produced by Paul Maslansky. The film was released on the 23rd of March ’84 and the running time was around 96 minutes.  It is the first of the seven movies in the Police academy ‘’series’’, and in my opinion, it’s the best one of them by far.

The plot is basically this: The local police force has a severe shortage of police officers so the chief police decides to lower the requirements that are used to rule out the not so great candidates. This means, that the general level of physical, and sometimes mental wellbeing within the new police officers is drastically worse. A lot of conversations are held so that it could be decided, whether the new candidates will stay or not. Commander Eric Lassard has a different opinion. He thinks that the future police officers should stay and finish the academy. And in fact he’s right, because they save the town from a horrifying riot that suddenly occurred.

The characters are very memorable. Everybody, who has seen a Police academy-movie, is able to name at least one character. This is mostly due to the fact that every character has his/her own special ‘’ feature’’, for example, cadet Larwell Jones, played by Michael Winslow  is truly outstanding with his famous sound-effects. There are also many other memorable actors, such as Steve Guttenberg ( as cadet Carey Mahoney) and Bubba Smith ( as cadet Moses Hightower). Hightower’s name is actually ‘’true’’, because of his great length and strength. One funny pair of characters is Thaddeus Harris and Carl Proctor. They interact with each other like no other I’ve ever seen. So in other words, the actors are wisely chosen and they give their characters a personal ‘’touch’’.

The movie was filmed entirely in Toronto Canada and the various studio sequences were filmed at Lakeshore Studios. The camerawork is in general very good indeed and the soundtrack seems to fit into the movie rather well. The soundtrack consists of songs, that are mostly very ‘’bluesy’’. Most of the songs are performed by a musical group called Jack Mack and the heart attack. But undoubtedly the most famous songs of the soundtrack are the march at the beginning of the movie, and the melody, which starts to play at the ‘’Blue Oyster’’ bar. But one of the most remembered things about all of the seven Police Academy-movies has to be the awesome sound-effects performed by Michael Winslow.

All in all it could be said, that the movie is really excellent in pretty much every way. The soundtrack fits to the movies age perfectly with its bluesy sound from the 1980’s. In my opinion this movie should belong to the top 10 comedy movies ever made. But there is an intriguing question; what in the name of all that’s holy were they thinking, when they decided to make 6 sequels to this masterpiece?

Leap Year

Leap Year

Leap Year is a romantic comedy which was released in April 2010. The movie is written by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont and directed by Anand Tucker. Leading actors of the film are Amy Adams and Matthew Goode. The original language is English.

Leap Year is set in our times Ireland and USA. Anna Brady (Amy Adams) has decided to make a trip to Dublin, Ireland to propose her boyfriend Jeremy (Adam Scott) on a leap day 29th of February. According to old Irish tradition woman can propose to man only on that day every fourth year. When Anna faces problems while trying to get to Dublin in time she mets this handsome and very charming Irishman, Declan (Matthew Goode). Declan helps her to get to her destination. At first they don’t get along at all but when the movie goes on they start to have feelings towards each other. Declan makes Anna think what is really important in life by setting her a question “What would be the first thing you would take with you when escaping from a burning house?”. In the end of the movie this question is what makes Anna rethink what she wants from life and with whom she wants to live it.

The plot of this movie is quite predictable but still it’s made in a more fascinating way than many other romantic movies I’ve seen. Even though you can quess the ending pretty easily the movie isn’t boring at all.

One feature that makes this movie fascinating is the camerawork. Who wouldn’t like Irish landscapes and sunsets? Scenes are also filmed in a way that you can look chains of events through the characters eyes. Together with soundtrack these marvellous views makes you not only see what happens but also feel the atmosphere.

Two main characters Anna and Declan are from different cultures and they speak with dialects. All the Irish sayings and the sarcasm you can hear especially from Declan are what makes this film also funny not only romantic. Because the movie is consentrated mainly on these two characters their personalities have to be nuanced to keep you interested.

This movie was easy to follow and not too syrupy for me. I would say it is a fresh version from traditional love story with all its turning points. And to be honest, I don’t feel bad about Jeremy losing Anna to this incredibly charming Irishman Declan.
