V for Vendetta

V for Vendetta is fantasy thriller movie whitch is written by The Wachowski Brothers. It is based on a comic book with the same name. These episodes happen in a near-future dystopian society London. The mysterious man, V, is going to change the whole society system with his own way, while he is executing his private vendetta.

The main character, Evey Hammond is a young lady, whitch Mr. V saves from secret police, and after that Evey is proving V’s destruction of Old Bailey. The government says that is was only emergency demolition, but the lie comes esposed by V who talks over BTN. Evey tries to help V to escape, but same time gets herself in danger. This movie is also some kind of lovestory, but different one. The most remarkable moment in this movie, also in my mind is the line where the secret police chief Creedy asks for V that ‘’Why won’t you die?’’ and then V answers ‘’Behind this mask is more than bones and blood, behind this mask is an ism, Mr. Creedy, and isms are bulletproof.’’

And some special day, all the dead people will be seen walking with others who live.
V for Vendetta is maybe one of the best movies I have ever seen since Avatar. The meaning of this movie is very intelligent and after it I have been hoping many times that there should be person like V, who will do those same things to this world too. I really would recommend this movie to everyone. It has very good effects and thrill, so you should absolutely watch that movie!

A Shocking Accident

I read a short story called A Shocking Accident. Writer of this story is Graham Greene. It have writed on 1967. The story is tradegy about of Jerome`s being killed by a falling pig.
The story starts when protagonist has called into his housemaster`s room. In room housemaster tells to Jerome that his father has died by accident. When she tells that she looks out of the window. Jerome thinks that she is doing it becauce she is lieing but the truth is she is doing it becauce she can`t look into Jeromes eyes and say that his father is died. Reason of dieing is incredible. He died because a pig falled on his neck! Jerome doesn`t believe the reason because he has always beliewed that his father is secret agent or something like that because he travelles so much.
Jerome has big problems with telling all people that how his father died. He doesn`t want that people start laughing when they hear that incredible reason. He has two methods how to tell it. First one is just telling straight how it happened and second one is a bit more complicated. When Jerome is older he has big problems on telling his fiancèe about his father. He scares at how his fiancèe called Sally takes it. That is the reason why Jerome hasn`t shown Sally to his aunt. But when the wedding day is coming he has to show Sally to his aunt. In aunt`s place Sally finally hears about Jerome`s father and on big Jeromes surprise she tooks it really well. Only what she asks is what happened to pig. Probubly the pig died because it falled on fifth floor and no one can survive it.
Short story was pretty good. Plot was easy so it was easy to catching up with it. I recommend this for anyone.

A Shocking Accident

A Shocking Accident
Short story “A Shocking Accident” by Graham Greene tells about Jerome whose going through a tragedy (his father was killed by a falling pig). Jerome get engaged with Sally and she will chance Jerome’s world. Jerome becomes a different, happier person in the end of the story.
In the beginning Jerome was quite young when housemaster, Mr Wordsworth tells to Jerome that his father is died in accident. Mr Wordsworth tells him the incident of his father with the pig falling on him. Why Mr Wordsworth went to the window and turned his back on Jerome? maybe because he started laughing and he didn’t want show it to Jerome.
When Jerome was a child he believed that his father either “ran guns” or was a member of the British Secret Service. He thought his father is a kind of hero, as many of children are thinking about their parents. When he grew up he understood his dad was a common man who wrote books.
Soon, Jerome realized that this incident was a comedy to other people. Jerome rehearsed the method of recounting his father’s death because he wanted to reduce the comic. He was scared how people would relate. He had two possible methods. The first method led gently up to the accident, so it was described the listener was so well prepared that the death came really as an anti-climax. This method was good because people didn’t usually laugh him and they believed the story was true. The other method had virtue of brevity. In this way the main thing came up immediately so the listener was surprised and he didn’t understood story so he didn’t laugh. Jerome scared that his fiancée, Sally, would laugh when she will hear the story of his father’s death. He can’t tell that her himself. He knew that his aunt will inevitably tell how Jerome’s father dead for his fiancée, and that’s why he was very anxious about Sally meeting his aunt. Jerome’s aunt come to visit week before wedding and tell the story quickly and briefly to Sally. She was surprised but she didn’t laugh. Jerome was amazed because Sally didn’t laugh and that’s why Jerome feels his heart sang with joy and that his had appeased for ever!
Jerome and Mr Wordsworth’s dialogue tells little bit about them: Mr Wordsworth didn’t really know how to tell about death, he just shilly-shally. Finally he told it to Jerome and Jerome wasn’t so sure what to feel then. Maybe Wordsworth scared how would Jerome react. I think Mr Wordsworth is careful man, maybe little base (he almost laugh when said “a pig fell on him”. In dialogue Jerome was a silent, typical little boy who was just surprised by father’s death.
Sally’s final comment was very important for Jerome. The comment means that she understood how painful and dramatic father’s death was. She didn’t laugh, she was horrified. And that comment had appeased Jerome’s fear for ever. Sally’s great personality changes his life!
But what happened to pig? I think that pig is alive but he had hurt himself when he fell on Jerome’s father. Maybe the pig has now his own family and his living a life full of joy…… or maybe somebody have ate him. Who knows?

The Seven Dials Mystery

The Seven Dials Mystery

Agatha Christie wrote the novel called The Seven Dials Mystery in 1929. This novel was first published in Great Britain by Collins. Lady Agatha Mary Clarissa Mallowan is best known from her thrillers which she had written by name Agatha Christie.

The Seven Dials Mystery is one of these thrillers. The story is based on a mysterious secret society called the Seven Dials. Along the story two characters gets killed and their nearby friends starts to investigate what on earth is happening. Different kind of clues comes to them; letters from the victims of this cruel chain of events, words from a dying man trying to tell them about the Seven Dials and so on.. When these young, curious people realise that all of these clues are related to each other and the mysterious words “Seven Dials” shows up in many contexts, they muster their courage and begin to find out what is going on.

This novel has many characters which makes the story complete. The main ones are Superintendent Battle, Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent, Bill Eversleigh, Jimmy Thesiger, Loraine Wade and of course the two victims Gerald Wade and Ronny Devereux.

The sructure of the book is very well built together. In the beginning happens something that defines the whole idea of the story and when you get to the end of the book, it turns out why eveything went that way. The excitement stays all the way to the last pages of the novel which keeps the story captivating. The ending is nothing like you could have thought it would be, the heros aren’t that much heros anymore. Of course, love is added to a murder thriller.

The language of the book is old-fashioned and very much conformable to etiquette.
“Perhaps, Caterham, you begin to have some inkling of my purpose in visiting you this morning. – – I have given this matter my deep and earnest consideration. I can assure you, my dear Caterham, that I will cherish her exquisite youth..”.

At first, it was a bit difficult to stay in track among all these characters and their nicknames which are used a lot. But the further I read the more structured it all started to feel. I admire the character of Bundle; very self-confidence young lady with a huge amount of courage. I also can’t stop wondering how skilled writer Agatha Christie is when creating this kind of thrillers!

The Fault In Our Stars

As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.

The Fault In Our Stars is a book written by John Green and published in 2012. It tells the story of Hazel Lancaster, a seventeen-year-old girl with a terminal case of cancer, and how the rest of her life changes once she meets a boy named Augustus Waters.

The Fault In Our Stars is the kind of book you know is gonna end in tears, but love it for exactly that. As a friend of mine put it: ” This book ruined my life, and i have never read anything better.” However, it’s far from being depressing or rolling in the pain and sadness brought by cancer as such a major topic. It actually feels wrong to introduce this book with the mention of cancer because people often have a strong picture in their minds what ”cancer books” are like. And in my opinion, The Fault In Our Stars doesn’t fit that picture, it’s so much more than that. I think the best way to read it would be to just start in the beginning, with no clues on what the book is about, making yourself able to fall into the story with no expectations for it whatsoever.

Now, it has probably already become apparent how much I enjoyed reading The Fault In Our Stars. That’s actually one of the book’s biggest strengths: it’s incredibly enjoyable to read. Green’s writing is original in the best way. He has the gift of writing text where every word seems to be carefully picked out and thought about, and yet the sentences flow effortlessly, capturing you and making it impossible to put the book down. Over and over again he takes you by surprise with sudden bursts of happiness and sadness thrown where you’d least expect it. He also toys with language and storytelling by, for example, intentionally having a character use as complicated words as possible.

Another extraordinary thing about The Fault In Our Stars is the characters. They’re impossible to not fall in love with, they feel real in a way that makes you really care about their lives and what happens to them. As much as The Fault In Our Stars is a love story of two teenagers, star-crossed lovers at that, it gives these teenagers the depth that makes the book not just about their love but also their friendship and their bond, the things they like and the things they hate. Each character has some little quirk about them so that you can’t help but get fond of them. Especially the main character Hazel is something completely different from usual love-sick teenage girls portrayed in books and media. She’s smart and witty and overall so very lovable. She’s the kind of female character that I can and want to identify with.

All in all, The Fault In Our Stars is a beautiful and breath-taking book. It’s a whole experience with bot laughter and tears, it’s a book that demands to be read again many times to make sure it’s understood through and through. It’s the kind of book that you don’t want to go around shoving at everybody’s faces, but rather pick out people that you know will be able to appreciate it in a way it deserves, and then try your best to get them read it.

Why, Honey?

The short story called ”Why, Honey?” written by Raymond Carver was interesting to read, though it took a while to understand every part of it as it should. The story made up many thoughts on my mind.

The mother is worried about her son who has disappeared and left his mother many years ago. The situation between the son and the mother is complicated, sad and even tragic.  As a comprehension part I´m going to discuss about what does the mother accuse the son of? And what evidence does she give to back up her claims? :

1.The mother hears something  terrifying from her neighbour.  Her son might  got involved  into their cat´s (Trudy) dead. The neighbour had seen two boys in the field putting firecrackers in Trudy´s ears and in her anus.  At the moment mother thinks that her son wouldn´t do a thing like that, but when the son tells to the mother not to take it too hard because Trudy was old already, she changes her mind and even believes the neighbours story.

2.After  the ill-fated death of the cat, the mother recognizers another problem, lying. The son was supposed to work as a stockboy at Harley´s.  The night came when he was to draw his first check, and the mother asks how much did he earn. The son answers:  “ 80 dollars.” The mother has to doubt it because it was way more than she thought.  When the mother did the laundry, she founds  the stub from Harley´s in his pocket where is number of the son´s real wage (28 dollars).

3.The mother surmises, that if she would ask her son to tell where did he go last night, the son would maybe answer “to the show” but actually he might went to the school dance or spent the evening riding around with somebody in a car. The reason why she believes that the son might lie again and again is that he has been dishonest very often.

4.Once the son was supposed to have gone on a field trip and the mother naturally asked him what did he see back there? The son starts to tell nonsense about a desert and its history assuming that the mother would believe him. The mother does believe but suddenly the next day she gets a note from the school saying they wanted a permission for a field trip which moment in time would be soon hereafter. Therefore again the son made up the story.

5.Near the end of the son´s senior year  the mother was concerned about his grades and worried also because she was not able to know enough about her son daily activities. The mother notices the bloody shirt, the shotgun and the knife but she wasn`t able to find any groceries though the son said he had been “an appetite hunting”. Furthermore the son was very nervous and lied that he just had a bloody nose and that’s why the shirt was totally wet and full of blood. The mother may have thought that the son had done something very horrible.

7. One night the mother surprises badly the son in his room while he was bent over by the dresser and quickly slammed the drawer  and turned to the mother and shout that he is sick of spying him all the time. The mother got very confused and cried herself to sleep. She claimed that the son broke her heart that night.

8. In my opinion almost every claims of the mother was fair enough and realistic, but considering each of the claims in turn, the evidences were sometimes more clearly convincing than other ones. The tragic dead of the Trudy cat was horrible and the neighbours story was reliable.  I do not think that lying to parents about everything is ever acceptable. The mother has rights to be angry and at least confused and sad when the son acts like he does with wages, show, field trip, bloody shirt, kneeling and “surveillance.”

9. She talks very vaguely and distantly about her son to show how little she had contact with him. She never mentions the sons name or any positive things about him. “Who I am afraid is him” “he was good boy expect for his outbursts and that he could not tell the truth.” “I can´t give you any reasons”  “I should be proud but I´m afraid”

10. The mother is hiding somewhere and she´s scared. She is probably alone because she doesn´t want anyone from the past life to know where she is. The narrator is writing because someone who needed to contact her has found out where she is and wrote a letter to her too.

11. Yes, I do believe that the narrator is reliable. She writes and tells the whole story systematically and clearly. “I am very ashamed” “I have been praying no one knew” “but you did. Why did you?”

12. I guess the mother is writing to an old friend or to the sons wife.

A shocking Accident

A Short story by Graham Greene

Story tells about boy named by Jerome and how he have to cope with a difficult situation. At first Jerome finds out that his dad have been in a street accident in Naples. Jerome was always thought that his father were a great adventurer who travelled around the world and faced spectacular places. Jerome thinks that police was shooting his father or something, so he asked: Did they shoot him through the heart ? But nobody didn´t shoot him, not at all. He died when pig fell on him straight from the balcony, in the fifth floor and broke his neck. Not really very dignified death for a noble man, it just don´t fit Jerome´s thoughts. Jerome was shocked about the situation, but he also realize that he have to find some way to tell others how his dad was killed. It isn´t that easy… Every time he started to tell about his father´s accident, the listener can´t help grinning its face or starting at laugh. Everyone just laughs at Jerome´s story, nobody really try to understand real meaning and how it affect Jerome feelings. It irritates him so badly. He use two different ways to tell others, first one was to tell all the story just how it goes and second was to tell only that: ”My father was killed by a pig”. He only get others answer like this: ”How interesting. I never realized there was pig-sticking in Italy. Was your father keen on polo?” It was apparently too hard to understand…
Years after Jerome gets married a girl called Sally, but he afraid to tell even her about his fathers death. Jerome tried to tell her himself several times, but he was too anxious to know all she could that concerned him. Week before wedding he took Sally to dinner to see his aunt and then came the moment when he have to face Sally´s reaction to strange story. He just prepare to face contempt. But Sally didn´t laugh at all. At the she just said: ”How horrible. It makes you think, doesn´t it?Happening like that. Out of clear sky.” And Jerome was so happy, finally someone realized everything. It was first time ever that somebody didn´t laugh at his story.
The story was weird at first glance, but after I readed it several times it opened to me. But I really don´t like it so much. Text was hard to understand and it was full of strange words, so I can´t follow plot perfectly. I think the story could have been more interesting if it contained more plot twists. However it was rewarding when you really understand the meaning of this strange story.

Inheritance

Inheritance is fourth and final book in Christopher Paolini’s fiction series witch the most of you might recognize as Eragorn. The book were published in autumn of 2011 when first part were published in 2003. The story tells about medieval country isolated from world whit smaller trade country. First country is huge and divided by rivers, ancient forests guarded by elves, mountains inhabited by dwarfs and deserts, whole place is still rounded whit mountains and undiscovered sea. The country is enslaved by mad tyrant who is the last dragon rider, who betrayed and killed them all expect some who allied whit him. Magic is the ultimate weapon in this world where one wizard can eliminate dozens regular soldiers whiting a eye flick. King uses it to keep people obey. However rebellion rises it’s head as new dragon rider Eragorn born’s. Previous books tells about Eragorn’s journey whit the rebellion movement and inheritance tells mostly about war between rebellion and old king.

Paolini has been criticized by the naive and cliche but I don’t find it any disturbing though at the two last books the power that’s being used in any battles starts to grow a bit       ridiculous if you compere it to first books where Eragorn uses all his might to escape the kings men and in Inheritance he takes out whit help of ten elite elf wizard whole castle. That doesn’t bother to much because enemy’s strength increases as well. After all battles are not this book’s strength, the story telling is. Book describes well characters from teen to madness. and makes it so that it’s gripping. I try to avoid to spoil the story for those who want to read the book but I can tell that if you read lot of fiction it’s quite predictable, but very satisfying. Eragorn is quite yang trough book but grows into quite ass in the end when the king is defeated and I think its because writer wanted a happy ending. It’s not spoiling the story and fits the contest well so I leave it to you to judge it.

Why, honey?

I was really suprised about the things that the mothers claimed about her son. I could not believe that someone could write something like that about their own child. Her evidences directed me to think that he was some sort of a criminal. Especially the fact that he lied all the time and he could do that with clear eyes. In addition he bought a shotgun and a knife, that is really creepy. And the thing that he lied about his days pay was weird. And the bloody shirt? What was that all about? Mother should have called the police for Chirst sake! Considering to these things mothers evidences were really convincing.

Mother gives information about her son in very negative way. She does not tell much good things about her son. She describes his darkest feelings and doings and ignores all the good things. Well, she does tell that he loved their cat, but many psychopaths love cats or thats what I have learned from all the movies I have seen.

Final paragraph of the narrator refers to that she’s scared and wants answers about her sons situation. It is also a cry for help. She really needs answers. She is really scared and is desperate of answers. She could also be mentally ill and is imagining all the things she has written.

I am questioning the narrators reliablity. This could be true because she is his mother and why would she tell so horrible lies about her son. But what if this is only cry out for attention? What if she is just exaggerateing all these things? I mean, come on! The text she has written refers that her son could be psyhcopath which have never ever got caught and he ran as covernor and got elected. If he had done some horrible stuff when he was young, someone would have found out before he got elected. So yes, I am questoining narrators reliability. She is just sick of attention, she craves it.

Why, Honey?

”Why, Honey?” is a short story written by Raymond Carver. The short story tells about mom who afraid something about his son. The whole story is a form of letter. The mom has written a letter to one man and in that letter she tells about her son. She tells about things which makes her suspects her son. She suspects that her son and his friend have put firecrackers in her cat’s ears and in ”you know what”. Their neighbour had seen two boys doing that and had seen the other one of those boys running towards the mom’s and son’s home. The son also has lied about his wages. He said that he got 80 dollars but the mom found the stub that show that he got only 28 dollars. That wasn’t only thing the son lied about. Everytime when the mom asked where did he go last night he always said that he went to the show. Then the mom found out that he went to the school dance or spent the evening riding around with somebody in a car. Once the son was supposed to have gone on a field trip and he even told that he saw land formations. Then a next day mom got a note from the school saying they wanted permission for a field trip. He lied again. The mom also found a shirt full of blood that was in his car. The son said that he had a bad bloody nose. Then one night he took his things and left. Now he is in politics and is governor and the mom is afraid of him. She says that she should be proud of him but she is afraid. She tells also that there have been a man in a car watching her. She wonder how the man whom she is writing to know who she is because she has changed her name and moved to different city.

I think the things that the mom tells about the son is very suspicious. Why he is lying all the time? Why he can’t tell the truth? And why the shirt really is bloody?

The final paragraph tells that the narrator (the mom) is very worried that someone know who she is and where she lives. She doesn’t want to be known. And that’s why she is writing to the man and she wants to know how the man found out who she is.

I think the narrator is reliable but it is also chance that she is little paranoid and imagine things.

The mom may be writing to someone how wants to know things about the son because the son is governor.
