Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is a sequel to the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes and both of the films are based on Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional characters. Main characters of the film are detective Sherlock Holmes, who is acted by Robert Downey Jr. and Dr. Watson, who is acted by Jude Law. Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is action mystery film and it has released on December 2011. The film has directed by Guy Ritchie and written by Kieran Mulroney and Michele Mulroney.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is founded on 1890s’s Europe, when threat of the First World War was close. Holmes’s and Watson’s enemy Professor Moriarty, who is acted by Jared Harris, tries to debase attitude of nations by different betrayals and in that way to help the First World War to start. Holmes and Watson try to stop Professor Moriarty with their new ally Simza, who is acted by Noomi Rapace. They travel along boundary of France and Germany and end up at last to peace negotiations in Alps of Switzerland. In the peace negotiations happen something unusual but if you want to know what, you have to watch the movie!

Sherlock Holmes’s actor must be sarcastic, narcissistic, selfish and a little irresponsible, wise and shrewd but actor still need to be person who really cares, though he shows it lamentably rarely. That’s why I think Robert Downey Jr. is perhaps the best actor to play him; Downey really knows how to act that kind of person.
Jared Harris comports with Moriarty’s role well, because Harris looks like conveniently egoistic and mean scientist.
There is at times slow-motion scenes in the movie when characters fight or they escape. This helps to understand those scenes much better and it makes movie original.

I liked Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows much, because it is very brilliant movie. It is fun, there’s action in there and it expresses meaning of friendship. There’s many opinions of that film: some loves it and some don’t. Your own opinion you get only watching it.

 Enjoy the movie! =)

Summer Wars

Summer wars (originally サマーウォーズ) is animated movie directed by Mamoru Hosoda and scripted by Satoko Okudera. Summer wars, putting it simply, is about saving the real world from Love Machine, avatar who took over the virtual world OZ. This Love Machine is controlled by no one. It learns itself and likes to play games.

I like it how every character is important to this movie. Even though there is so many of them. Main character is Kenji Koiso, a match genius. He receives an e-mail with a mathematical code and cracks it.  Love machine steals his account and avatar from him and attacks with it, causing widespread damage in OZ and lot of troubles in real world. My favourite character is Kazuma Ikezawa and of course his avatar King Kazma.

He is 13-year-old boy who uses all his time to train his avatar in OZ. Second favourite character is Wabisuke Jinnouchi, a cool and sardonic 41-year-old computer expert who created Love Machine (I also like this avatar very much, poor thing) and sold it to USA.

There are a lot of soundtracks in this movie, but my favourite is King Kazma’s OST (07). I don’t know why, maybe just because it reminds me of King Kazma and it’s used in the best parts of the movie.

The main reason why I choose this film was because I adore its animation. Red lines and simply colouring is just beautiful and really well done, I really like it. Summer wars is animated by Madhouse. I adore Mamoru Hosoda who is a Japanese film director and animator. First films he got public attention was two films in the Digimon Adventure and 6th movie in the One Piece series.  And not to mention The Girl Who Leapt through Time. Studio Ghibli also commissioned Hosoda to direct Howl’s Moving Castle, but he left the project during the early production stages.

Iron Sky

Iron Sky (2012) is an action scifi comedy film directed by Timo Vuorensola. The story was made by Johanna Sinisalo and Jarmo Puskala, who gave the original idea for the story. The film was released on February 11th 2012. It was shooted in Germany and Australia. The film is mainly in English, though German is used much too. The running time is 89 minutes.

Iron Sky is a film about Nazis, who escaped to the dark side of the moon on 1945. On 2018, the current president of US sends two astronauts to the moon. They discover the hideout of the Nazis, which leads to Nazi’s attack to Earth, in order to assassinate the president of US.

The actors were well chosen and they suited their characters. I liked Renate Richter’s character the most. The special effects in the film were well made and it was a great experience in the movie theater. When I heard about this movie for the first time, I thought the idea itself was so weird that I just had to see it for myself. I have seen Iron Sky twice now and I enjoyed it just as much on both times.

Why, Honey?

Raymond Carvers short story, what is named as ”Why, Honey?”  tells about mother and son. There are some difficulties in story, for example that the boy is not able to be truthful and since he turned to fifteen weird things were starting to happen. For example Trudy, the cat of the family was founded by neighbor and it was cut up. Later mother recognizes that it might have been her own son who had killed the cat.

The mother accuses the son of cutting up the cat, lying of the wages and much more, maybe killing someone, because of finding a bloody shirt alongside shotgun and knife from the trunk. The boy also lies to his mother of every trifle such as a field trip where he hasn’t even been. The mother feels awful for that she can’t make the boy change and maybe she is also a bit despondent because as a mother she might feel like she have screwed up with raising her child.

I think that the mother’s claims are very airtight, because his son is clearly covering something up from her and laying more than a lot.The neighbor, Mr Cooper saw two boys in the field putting firecrackers in Trudy’s ears and he thought that the another was the son of hers, so in my opinion it is a huge evidence and when the boy said ”don’t take it too hard mom” it was just attesting the supposition to right one. And when the mother asked about the salary, it was also a definite evidence of lying when she found the stub. At the moment when the shirt was found from the trunk the mother surely understood that it wasn’t an accident and for all that the shirt was as if hidden as it was rolled up and the son didn’t mention it before the mother found it. Then the mother certainly became aware of everything was not alright and got the idea of her son might have murdered someone. More than that boy’s behaving proves it. The way the boy behaves for example of the mothers surveillance seems to prove a lot.

The mother brings out the information in a sinister way in the letter by repeating words “I am afraid”, that can be understood as if she is afraid of that his son could hurt her physically just like the cat or the one he might have murdered. From the final paragraph of the letter narrates that the mother wants to share her experiences with someone, instead of staying alone with her thoughts. In my opinion the narrator seems to be reliable and it could be possible that she is writing to her ex-partner who is the father of the boy, because she speaks so familiarly, tells a lot of the boy and in a letter she also mention that there is no man or father in the house, which doesn’t tell if they have for example divorced. That would also explain why “sir” writes to her, of course he is also concerned about his son. Why the mother calls him “sir”? Maybe because they haven’t kept in touch for a long time and it might seems too close if she would have used his first name.

Twilight Breaking Dawn part 2 – Film review

Twilight breaking dawn part 2 is one part of the The Twilight Saga. There have been former sagas, called: Twilight (2008), New Moon (2009), Eclipse (2010) and Breaking Dawn (2011). All of the sagas are based on the novels by the American author Stephenie Meyer, who has gained the worlds stardom with The Twilight Sagas translations into 37 different languages. The Twilight Sagas are romance fantasy films, which includes also a bit action and adventure. Leading actors of the film are Kristen Stewart (who acts Bella Swan), Robert Pattinson ( who acts Edward Cullen) and Taylor Lautner ( who acts Jacob Black). The last part, Breaking Dawn part 2 had its premiere in November 2012 when it also achieved a great success.

The plot of the film is slightly simple minded, yet in this part it is the most surprising and has some unexpected twists. The movie starts of the situation that Bella has turned into vampire since the childbirth. Now they have a beautiful baby with Edward, but the situation is very complicated because Jacob has become marked to Bellas daughter Renesmee and the situation doesn’t ease off while clan of the Volturi is coming for the Cullens in order to kill them for the huge crime they did, because of they believe that they have done immortal child on purpose, even that’s not true. There is enormous battlefield between the Volturi and the other vampires, but how does it end up? That you can find out by watching the movie.

I have seen all of the Twilight Sagas and even I have heard a lot of opinions that it’s ridiculous and so on, I still think that it is quite fine collection of movies, which are particularly suitable for teenagers. I was amazed of this part, for it was so much better illustrated, scenes were more believable and for all that the role performances were also very successful. Of course there were some scenes, where for example the moves were a bit implausible but mainly I enjoyed of watching the movie. Especially I would like to recommend the movie for prejudiced people and in my opinion it is most suitable for women but men should also watch the movie before to judge it.

Friends with Benefits

Friends with Benefits is a comedy directed by Will Gluck. It’s premiere in Finland was in 30th September 2012 but in America it was already in 22nd July. The movie is all about comedy but the further it gets on it shows pinch by pinch more its romantic side. The cast is amazingly the best: Justin Timberlake as Dylan and Mila Kunis as Jamie. Jamie is a head-hunter (actually an executive recruiter) from New York and her job is to recruite Dylan, who’s an art director from Los Angeles. When they meet each other, Jamie takes over to adapt Dylan to New York City lifestyle.

Jamie and Dylan are in their thirties and are both singles and their love life hasn’t been prosperous. Jamie’s been often told that she’s emotionally damaged and Dylan was told by his ex-girlfriend that he’s emotionally unavailable. At the beginning they just laugh about it and start hanging around together. One night after they watched a movie and hung out, they came up with an idea that they could have sex together without any emotions or commitments and no stings attached. At first it was awkward but soon they dealt with it just fine. For a while everything went ok but soon they both note that they are having feelings to each other. Both start having some doubts about their situation. And at some point Jamie starts seeing other guys and they won’t be anymore friends with benefits, just friends. At the end everything however turns ok and they confess their feelings to each other and everything’s smooth and easy and they have their happy ending.

Soundtrack of the movie were pretty good. Semisonics ”Closing time” plays in movie’s trailer but also in the movie. There’s also this scene where Dylan sings the song during the sex. Train’s ”Soulsister” appears also in the movie and is very matching. In the movie there’s a flashmob at Times Square and people dance in time the ”New York, New York” by Ray Quinn and Ultra Love. One mentionable song is Kriss Kross’s ”Jump”. It’s hilarious song from the ’90 and in the movie it’s Dylan’s favorite song from his childhood.

About the camerawork, there’s not much to say. Nowadays there’s pretty decent cameraplay and the quality is very high. You can’t see any microphones nor assistents. The view angle doesn’t vary so much (except most sex scenes are shot from above the characters). The movie has few special effects but not much. Lots of extra people were used especially in the flash mob scenes.

I personally liked the movie. It’s very hilarious and Timberlake and Kunis are great partners, they matched well. The movie was pretty similar as No Stings Attached (2011) but still so different on my opinion. Friends with Benefits won’t maybe fit everyone because of it’s ”naive” plot but many male and female friend of mine have praised the film, and so do I.
