Why, Honey?

”Why, Honey?” is a short story written by Raymond Carver. It tells about mother and her son who is acting odd towards her.

Their cat dissapeared on the Fourth of July and it was found next day in their neighbours backyard. Someone had stuffed firecrackers into Trudy’s ears and you know where. The neighbout said to the mother that one of the boys was her son but the mother could not believe it.

Son was working as a stockyboy at Hartley’s. The night that he was given his first check he came home and lied about the wage that he got, he said that he was paid 80 dollars but it was really 28 dollars. There is no particular reason why he would lie about his wage.

If mother asked from her son that where was he last night and he answered ”to the show”. But mother found out that he was lying. She did not know why he lied to her instead of telling the truth.

One day son was supposed to go to a field trip and mother asked what did he saw during the field trip and he looked mother into the eyes and lied that he saw land formations ash and so on. The next day mother got a note from the schoold saying they need permission for the field trip.

Mother found a bloody shirt from son’s car trunk and thought that he had murdered someone but son said that his nose had been bleeding. It scared the mother.

One day son had made a supper for mother as an apologize. Mother told him about her feelings towards the sons lies and asked why he did that. Son kept staring at her but didn’t say anything. Then son moved alongside mother and said ”kneel is what I say, kneel down is what I say”. Mother ran into her room and locked the door. Son packed all his necessary thing and left that night for good.

One night mother went to sons room when he was bent over the dresser and slammed a drawer and shouted to mother to get out. Son said that he is sick of her spying on him.

Mother’s claims about her son are very unfortunate. Her evidence is very convincing. The mother writes about her son very distantly and does not mention his name in any turn. The final paragraph tells about the narrator that she has been holding this unfortunate story inside her and she has wanted to tell it to somebody. I consider that the narrator is very reliable, nobody could lie about this kind of story, expect his son. I think that the mother is writing to son’s wife.

Forrest Gump (1994)

Forrest Gump is a drama/romance movie about the life of a man named Forrest Gump. Forrest Gump was released on 6th of July 1994.
The stars of the film are Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump, Robin Wright as Jenny and Gary Sinise as Lieutenant Dan Taylor. The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Winston Groom and Eric Roth.

The film is about a man named Forrest Gump from Alabama telling his amazing life story to bypassers at a bus stop. Forrest begins to tell his lifestory from his childhood when he was bullied by some kids because he was crippled and couldn’t walk normally. But then he met Jenny and they became best friends like Forrest said ”we go together like peas and carrots”, Forrest always loved Jenny eventough Jenny did all kind of things for example she went roadtripping with strangers and smoked weed.
Forrest was accepted to play football in university because he was so fast runner, he couldn’t actually play football but he was chosen to All-American football team and got to meet president John F. Kennedy. He graduated from university and went to army and he was called to war  in Vietnam.Forrest learned to play ping-pong in Vietnam while he was injured and he was so good that he was chosen to All-American ping-pong team, with whom he travelled to China to play ping-pong. Forrest got discharged from the army. He met a man called Bubba while he was serving in Vietnam and they became friends. They had plans to buy a shrimping boat and go shrimping when they get out of Vietnam but Bubba got shot. Forrest kept his promise and bought a shrimping boat and went shrimping with his friend from Vietnam, Lieutenant Dan Taylor. They caught tons of shrimps by coincidence and became millionaires, Forrest didn’t care about money so Lieutenant Dan Taylor handled the money and invested in Apple. Forrest leaves shrimping industry and moves to cutting grass and he enjoys doing it.
Forrest’s loneliness leads him to take a run ”for no particular reason.” At first, he decides  to run to the end of the road, then across town, then across the county, then all the way to the Mississippi border. Eventually, he criss-crosses the country several times in three years. In the end of the movie Jenny tells to Forrest that he has a son. Jenny dies to HIV and Forrest moves to home Alabama with his son.

Tom Hanks plays amazing role as Forrest Gump and he is awarded the Best Actor in a Leading Role Oscar in 1995. The visual effects are well implemented and they were also awarded with an Oscar for best effects in 1995. In total Forrest Gump won 6 Oscars and lots of other prizes. The movie is successful from all perspectives in my opinion. It gets better and better everytime you watch it, I recommend it to everyone.
