Book review of The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is written by American writer Suzanne Collins. This 2008 published dystopian novel is respected all around the world and it is the first book in  The Hunger Games trilogy.

The book tells about young lady Katniss Everdeen, who lives in the dystopian called Panem. Panem has built in the area of old North America and is run by the powerful Capital. Capital arranges every year The Hunger Games, where together 24 people are fighting for life. Capital is divided into 12 districts and from the every district have to attend one girl and one boy to go as tributes. Katniss’ homedistrict is a number 12, and she come selected with the boy named Peeta Mellark. Rules are simple: their option is to kill or be killed.

Ms. Collins is an amazing writer and her idea about a book like this is fantastic. I cried because the story was so good and touching. It is one of the easiest book to talk with other people because it makes you think about things which are important to you. Book’s voice is Katniss’ and reader can identify with her when she is afraid of be killed, delighted at her successes and in love with Peeta. Her trait is a little bit shy and comfortable with herself, but thought very intent and confident. Excitement remains from the beginning until the end. That is why The Hunger Games is so engrossing!

The book emphasizes different characteristic and emotions in people and there is a strong contrast between good and bad in the story. As I just mentioned ”in love with Peeta”, the story includes just suitably romanticism. Katniss and Peeta’s romance is like a ”second” story in the book.

I suggest this work for everyone and hope for you to comment about your reading experiences!

Movie review: Heart of a Lion

Director Dome Karukoski’s and screenwriter Aleksi Bardy’s ”Heart of a lion” (Leijonasydän) is a Finnish movie, starring Peter Franzen, Yusufa Sidibeh and Laura Birn. The film have premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival 2013.

It tells about neo-Nazi Teppo who falls in love with a woman called Sari. Sari has a dark-skinned son Rhamadhan which is hard for Teppo and his Nazi group to accept.

Heart of a lion is a touching because it discusses themes of love and racism. The domestic film is also humorous, entertaining and evokes interest in the Finnish culture. For someone the movie might have too much violence and racism me for example. However, I could watch the movie again because awkward moments are easy to identify!

Karukoski’s directing style is excellent and he used actors who are sure of their actions. Especially unforgettable is Yusufa Sidbeh’s role Rhamu-boy who is the youngest one but still manages well. The Nazi group is convincing in an amazing way and will probably make people think that there is also similar action in Finland nowadays.

Heart of a lion is the best Finnish movie that I have seen, even it evoked more negative than positive thinks at first. The movie talk well about racism, without appraising anybody. That is a great attribute in a film director, and acts as a springboard to make Finnish films further better than before. I give number 9 for this movie and I can recommend for everyone to watch it, of course you have to notice the age limit ;D
