This course takes us to the world of the cinema, music, books and visual arts. In a way, we will be dealing with our leisure activities for is it not at leisure that we listen to music and read books and watch films?
For many of us, watching films is watching films in English. And for many of us, films are a source of the English you have learned outside school. When it comes to reading books, some have read books in English while others have read more in Finnish.
During this course, you will partly work as you are used to: have Bell Work at the beginning of lessons, study of course more words, and learn new grammar. The grammar will focus on nouns: singulars and plurals, the use of the genitive and the use of the article. The skillful use of articles is the real test of the language learner!
During this course, your special tasks are two written tasks to this blog. The first one is a film review and the second one is book or short story review. This means that you will read a novel in English, or alternatively, the short stories in Open Road 5. You are strongly encouraged to read a novel since reading books is one of the most enjoyable and also most effective ways to learn a foreign language.
In addition to the blog entries, you will write a regular essay in class. The essay will focus on music.
The blog is open to all students on the 2nd grade. Two groups now, in October-November, and two in December-January. You will be invited to be writers of the blog. See further instructions about being one in the page How to write in a blog.
You will not only write, you will read what others have written. You will also comment on your friends’ posts. The blog will be our on-line course environment. Let’s make it enjoyable!
