Chocolat

A beautiful movie tells about a woman who had ended up to a little French village. Vianne Rocher (Juliette Binoche) initiates a chocolate shop with her only daughter but the kind-hearted idea is not regarded as so sweet. Opening a chocolate shop just during the fasting result in reprehension but the originator shows how strong and obstinate a single lady can be.

Juliette Binoche perform her part very well managing to bring the right feeling to the screen. Even if Vianne Rocher is a careful mother she can also be a seductive beauty who gets every man on tiptoes. Actually she has a total knowledge of people`s thoughts and her serenity calms mostly dramatic movie. Of course a woman like this needs a tiny adventure and soon a handsome Rom (Jonny Depp) leashes his boat to a dock  but the residents of the village don`t accept that. Naturally there is some mystics in the stoned streets of French villages and in spite of the residents` negative feelings there are situations seasoned with romantic in for.

Romantic nights are full of playing guitar in silence and dancing accompanied by violins. In my opinion the soundtrack of the movie is remarkably emotional and makes spectators wondering theirselves into the situations of the movie. In its entirety the music of the film is quite straightforward but after all it fills its part better than just aptly.

At the same time the film gives an opportunity to see how a child have to conform to adults` everyday life. Rocher`s daughter Anouk (Victoire Thivisol) have to suffer from loneliness when her mother is annoying the residents of the village. I reckon that the film aims to point out social disadvantages. What is more in the end of the movie prevalent weird feeling of the village begins to disappear –thanks to Vianne Rocher. The story tells that closed-mindedness can be just a way to escape from reality.

Above all   the execution of the film is very versatile and it doesn`t neither give way for monotonousness nor excessive exaggeration of dramatic. The effects are tranquil even if the film is production of the nineteenth century. After the credits have ended up long ago a spectator will immerse into the fascinating feeling of the movie for hours with chocolate box hoping that the story would continue eternally but that is because the film has a soothing effect. Thus the film is suitable as well for grown-up mind as younger viewers.

In summary the `Chocolat` can be seen as a contention to individual freedom and to methods of our society. Anyway the film serves a pretext to curl up on the couch in a gloomy night of an autumn but of course there have to be one shameful thing in the film: You may need countless pieces of confectionery before the chocolate shop is even opened.

Pride and prejudice

I`ve read one of the most popular book by Jane Austen, Pride and prejudice. Then I thought I have to see some movie about book so I decided to watch in 2005 released movie.
The director is Joe Wright and the leading role is Keira Knight, who is played by Elizabeth Bennet, the second of five daughters of country gentleman. The Bennet`s family lives in Herforshire, near London and the whole village gets a little bit exited when new faces move in Herforshire. The one of the new gentleman is Mr. Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen), handsome, rich but pride and unpleasant man. Here begins maybe little cliché, but still delightful love story between Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.

My first impression was “awww, this was so cuty!”. In movie there was more connection between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth than in book. But yes, the book was published the first time in 1813, so I guess that kind of connection, what we in present day keep normal, would be too brave. Also the book was sometimes a bit unclear so the movie helped explain the plot.
But I think the book was still better, because there was more different plot twists. The movie touched just skin in the plot and let “did that just end?”- feel. When I read the book the excitement was whole time in attendance and stayed many days. But like I said earlier the movie was also good with own good sides.

But what was my favorite thing in the movie? The director didn`t chance too much the original plot! It`s always blessing to the readers when the directors don’t make too much own things to the plot. We have too much examples when a movie has just name of the book but nothing else. So if you want sophisticate yourself without reading the book, I recommend this movie. You will get some kind of opinion what was “Pride and prejudice”.

Never Back Down

Never Back Down, also know as The Fighters, is a action movie released  in 2008. This movie was directed by Jeff Wadlow and it was written by Chris Hauty. The main actor in this movie was Sean Faris as Jake Tyler. The movie hasn’t been a big hit around the world since it has mostly met only negative reviews. Still the movie made over 60 million dollars around the world (40 million in theaters ) against a budget of 20 million dollars.

The movie starts with a scene where Jake is having a football match and someone in the opposite team says something rude about his father who died in a drunk driving accident. Jake gets really mad and attacks this guy instantly. After these events Jake has to move to a different city. Attempting to fit in, at the invitation of a flirtatious classmate, Jake goes to a party where he is unwillingly pulled into a fight with the fighting MMA champion at the school, Ryan McCarthy. Originally, Jake does not wish to fight until Ryan taunts him about his father. First Jake doesn’t want to be any kind of a fighter or anything else like that, but after he realizes that his whole family could be in a danger because he being involved in some fighting stuff. Jake starts intense training with his new master Jean Roqua. Jake knows that he has to beat Ryan before he really hurts his family or friends.

I have watched this movie like million times and i still enjoy watching it. At first this movie seemed like it was just guys beating other guys over and over again, but after when i watched this movie for like the second time o realized it was not just fighting, not at all. The movie of course includes a lot of fighting but that how this Jake feels about fighting is incredible. In the movie there is this ’Beatdown’ event where Jake tries to beat Ryan. This Ryan gets disqualified and when Jake hears about this he immediately walks away from the event because all he cares about is to fight Ryan, nothing else. This movie is entirely very well made and the actors are really good and i just really like it.

Alice in Wonderland (2010)

My film is Alice in Wonderland. I chose the new version because i like it more than the original, animation one. The film is produced in 2010 and the director is Tim Burton. It is a fantasy movie and it is based on Alice in wonderland by Lewis Carrol. Also one reason why I love this film is because my favorite actor, Johnny Depp (Mad Hatter) , is acting on it. Other actors are Mia Wasikowska (Alice), Anne Hathaway (White Queen) and Helena Bonham Carter (Queen of hearts)  and bunch of animated characters. Almost the whole film is shot in Wonderland. The animation is fantastic and unbelievably beautiful. Whole Wonderland seems so realistic although it is so unrealistic. It is hard to explain but if you had seen the film you will understand. Also special effects are wonderful and breathtaking. For example the fight against the Jabberwock seems so real and the effects are marvelous. The film won two Oscars for best art direction and best costume design, and was also nominated for best visual effects. It is also one of highest-grossing films and its revenue was over one billion dollar.

The film begin when Alice is small and she sees odd dreams about Wonderland and White rabbit and things like that. Then suddenly she is nineteen and goes to the parties where lord Hamish is intended to ask her marry him. Alice doesn’t know what to answer and she runs away. She sees the White rabbit and follows him. Then the story lasts like the original one. She falls in the rabbithole and finds her way into the Wonderland. Since then the story changes. No-one believes that she is the real Alice and she is the one who will slay the Jabberwock. The story go on and it has similar features as the original story but the whole thing is really different. In some parts only the characters are same. Alice is define to slay the Jabberwock so the Queen of hearts could be dethrone. The war begins and Alice encounter with the beast.

I love this film so much and it is one of my favorite films! One reason could be that i love fantasy movies and as I said before i just love Johnny Depp. The plot is really good and it isn’t predictable. There is many turns and things that you couldn’t even believe that can happen. The actors are fantastic great and i just think the whole film is one master piece. I really don’t have nothing bad to say about the film except the end. It’s kind of boring but on the other hand it is a good thing because the end shouldn’t be messy. And I’m glad that everything becomes clear and nothing bothers me. So really mesmerizing film and I suggest everyone to watch it. You are going to love it!

Annabelle

Annabelle is a horror movie directed by John R. Leonetti and written by Gary Dauberman and the stars in this movie are Annebelle wallis as Mia and Ward Horton as John Gordon. Annabelle fills up the plot of the movie The Conjuring. Other important charecters in this movie are Father Perez (Tony Amendola) and Evelyn (Alfre Woodard). The film was released in 2014.

The movie is about a doll that got possessed by a demon when two members of a satanic cult invaded Johns and Mias house and tried to kill their unborn baby for some kind of satanic ritual. After that event Mia decides to get rid of her new doll because the other invaders blood got in to the doll. But when their old house burned down and they had to move to another apartment Mia decides to take the doll back. After a while Mia begins to notice weird and supernatural thing like the doll changes places by itself etc. When Mia gets her husband to believe what is really happening they decide to ask for help from the Father Perez.

Personally I watched this movie with my friends and I must say that this was not one of those horror movies which lack the horror. The plot in this movie is really good and clear especially if you have seen The Conjuring. In this movie there are a couple of expected jump scares and some moments when you know there will happen something soon but most of these really frightening parts took place at the end of the movie. Also the visual effects in this movie were really good and believable.

In conclusion I enjoyed this movie a lot and I recommend it for anyone who likes to watch horror movies and wants to watch a good horror movie.

Slumdog Millionaire

”Slumdog Millionaire” is the film to see. It is one of the best films i’ve ever seen. ”Slumdog Millionaire” is a British drama film directed by Danny Boyle and it’s released in 2008. The movie takes place on Mumbai, India, where eighteen year old orphan boy Jamal Malik is a contestant on the Indian version of Who wants to be a millionaire?. Jamal is one question away from winning the top price of the show, but the host can’t understand how an uneducated boy from a slum knows all the answers in the show, so he arrested Jamal a night before the last question and interrogated him after being convinced that he is cheating. The rest of the movie includes flashbacks to narrate the story of Jamal, love of his life Latika and his brother Salim. Although Jamal’s life was not easy, his life experiences gave him the knowledge to answer the difficult questions on Who wants to be a millionaire?. The movie has a typical happy ending, Jamal wins his 20 million rupees and gets his girl.

”Slumdog Millionaire” shows the poverty that exists in India. My favourite part of the film is at the start where the children are being chased through the slums by the police officers and it really shows you what the slums are like. The film also shows that there is some hope for children in the slums. It makes the film so touching.

A film like ”Slumdog Millionaire” does not come along very often. But when it does we end up falling in love. The movie is one of the most heart-warming and inspirational stories in recent years. Excitement, tragedy, love and hate it’s all featured together. If I were to point to one movie that will move you and force you to think, it would be ”Slumdog Millionaire”. I promise that the movie doesn’t leave anybody cold.

Edge of Tomorrow

When I watch action movies I do it to enjoy the gunfire and explosions that the movies so often offer me. But when I started to watch Edge of Tomorrow I was amazed by how much I enjoyed the mastermind plot. Edge of Tomorrow (2014) is based on the book  All You Need is Kill  and has been directed by Doug Liman. The movie tells the story of William Cage who is starred by Tom Cruise.

The movie starts when inexperienced Major Cage is forced to go fight on the front-lines in the war against aliens. When first arriving at the war zone the audience witnesses the death of the main character, but is surprised by the fact that William wakes up again in the morning of the same day, and here is where the fun starts. At first he doesn’t know what is going on but after a few deaths William figures it out. Next 10 minutes of the movie are filled up with different types of deaths that William experiences by trying to survive at the war zone. During the dozens of failed attempts William finds a woman called Rita, who has once shared the ability of William. With the help of Rita can William start to investigate the cause of the events.

My opinion of the movie is very positive. You get a feeling that the plot has been created with time and care and the characters are well thought. Because the plot differed from everything I had seen before the movie felt quite original. The set is constructed to look as realistic as possible and offers the audience a good look at places like England and Paris invaded by aliens. The movie shines also in the special effects department with glorious high resolution 3D models and audio effects. The soundtrack is a typical mix of epic orchestral music with nothing special.

In conclusion I really liked Edge of  Tomorrow for it’s excellent plot and characters. The movie offers an enjoyable watching experience and in no part gets boring.  So if you have a spare two hours you really can’t go wrong by watching this movie.

The Theory of Everything

The Theory of Everything is British romantic and emotional film directed by James Marsh. Brand-new, Oscar-winning movie tells about one of the world’s famous theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking and his first wife Jane. The story is based on the non-fiction book ”Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen” authored by Stephen’s wife Jane Wild.

In the beginning of the movie young chemist named Stephen Hawking meets attractive young humanist girl called Jane in the Cambridge university in the 1960’s. Pair falls in love and starts to date. To their annoyance Stephen is told that he is suffering rare motorneuron disease. He is given two years to live. Stephen and Jane decide to get married and fight together against the disease. During the movie, Stephen loses his way to walk and he soon becomes dependent on a wheelchair. Little by little Stephen’s ability to talk becomes harder and family’s life is getting more complicated.

Romantic love story turns gradually to the struggle against the disease. The roles of science and Hawking’s career are quite small in the film and movie is mainly a story of challenging relationship and love between two person.

I think film was extremely beautiful. It was real and supremely touching drama movie, which makes viewer cry. Sometimes film was probably too emotional but mostly I liked it. To my surprise, there was also humour in the movie. Film proved that Stephen Hawking is pretty funny and kind person. All parts in the film worked well. Melodic-classic piano music composed by Johann Johansson made strong and expressive feeling. In my opinion music was typical drama-movie music but it fit to the film. Filming worked also. It described the time well. The Theory of Everything was great, workable and quality entirety. There were some flaws in plot and screenplay. If I had written the movie, I would have done some scenes differently. For example I think Stephen and Jane fell in love too fast. However movie was really good, one of the best drama film I’ve ever seen.

Eddie Redmay as a Stephen Hawking made absolute greatest performance in his career. He was definitely worth of his Oscar ( Academy Award for Best Actor 2014). Redmay’s interpretation as Stephen Hawking was phenomenal. Role was probably challenging only because it’s physical. It’s not easy to act crippled convincingly and believable. But Redmay succeeded. All his facial expressions and signs were real. He was damn good!

You shouldn’t forget  Felicity Jones. Jones’ role as Jane Wilde was assertive too. She still stayed in the shadow of Redmay.

Then something about theme and message of the film. Well, this movie proved that there is always hope. Stephen was given two years to live. He is still alive. He lost his way to talk, but still created one of the most remarkable theory in chemistry. He could have given up but he fighted. And he didn’t have to fight alone. So the film also showed how powerful force love is. Jane departed of her dreams and career because of Stephen’s desease. Pair had a lot of problems but they still loved each other.

I recommend to watch this movie. If you aren’t interested otherwise, watch the movie at least because of Eddie Redmay. He is so good-looking.

The Lion King

The Lion King tells a story about lions living in the jungle. But it´s not as boring as it sounds. It tells about love. Love between two lions, between mother and son and above all, endless love between father and son.

The movie released in 1994. It is written by Irene Mecchi, Jonathan Roberts and LInda Woolvwerton. It is an animated musical adventure movie.

The Lion KIng is a famous Disney movie and I guess nearly everybody have seen it. I hadn´t seen it before last week I watched it. I wanted to take back the lost part of my childhood. It suprised me really positive. I didn´t think there could be anything special in that movie but my opinion has changed. Now I understand all that sensation it has made. It teaches about love and life philosophy. Story gives new ways to think and relate to things that happens. It gives an emotional experience. Sadness, happiness and love.

The story tells about a little lion called Simba whose father Mufasa is a big hero for that little lion. Mufasa always saves Simba every time Simba is in danger. But one day when there is no Mufasa anymore, when he accidentally dies Simba sees no reason to live in that place anymore and runs away. While his adventure he meets two guys called Timon and Pumba and realises big things about life and about his responsibilities.

There are two characters witch are absolutely my favourites: Timon and Pumba. They are just so sympathetic and I love their life philosophy. It´s something that everyone should assimilate. Their motto is ”Hakuna matata” witch means ”no worries”.  I like the way they just chill out and take it all easy.

Althought the movie is an animation and it is mainly made for children I think it´s not bad at all to watch it also older. There are things that people may not understand until they are more grown up. The best parts are those lovely well-known songs. I had heard nearly all of them before but I didn´t know that some of them are from that movie. The cutiest one is absolutely the song Can You Feel The Love and the funniest Hakuna Matata.

I think the language was easy to understand (one reason is of course that it´s made for little children). And it was also really easy to follow of course. I would recommend the movie for everyone, for whole family to watch together.

The purpose of the movie was maybe to do something witch evokes lot of emotions and still isn´t the hardiest thing to watch. And the main thing to do that all with a way children could watch.

The atmosphere was mainly really warm. And it evoked warm feelings. Unless the parts when someone died or something bad happend. But like in every Disney movie there was still happy ending and everybody were happy and so on. That´s the way every story should end. I think it also teaches important things, like people can´t hide from their responsibilities forever and the point that sometimes it is better just take it easy and say ”Hakuna matata”.

The Vampire Diaries

All my life I’ve thought that when we talk about movies or TV shows which are based on the books, the book series are better. And I mean always. For instance if you have read even one book from the series ”Percy Jackson” and after that watched the movie, you understand what I mean. (Oh god that film was horrible.)

But this TV show is a whole different story. ”The Vampire diaries” is an American television show based on the book series of the same name written by L.J.Smith. The first episode premiered on September 2009, and now there is altogether six seasons and 126 episodes of this enjoyable show. I have watched this almost seven years, and by now it has just gone better and better. Since the first episode I’ve been completely hooked, in spite of the fact that the seasons 1-2 were maybe a little bit too cheesy and soap opera-like.

”The Vampire diaries” takes place in Mystic Falls, a fictional small town full of supernatural beings- vampires, werewolves, witches, phantoms…everything you can imagine. The protagonist of the series is Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) , a high school girl who falls in love with vampire Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley). But their love isn’t a bed of roses: Stefan’s vicious and malignant brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder) returns with a plan to seek his revenge against Stefan. When the series progresses, Elena finds herself drawn to Damon and they all end up in a love triangle. As the narrative develops in the course of the series, the main point shifts on the mysterious past of the town involving Salvatore brothers ex-love: a 500-year-old vampire Katerina Petrova, who happens to be Elena’s catty doppelganger. And she seems to be one hell of a pain in the ass throughout whole series. Katerina’s return, along with the family of Original Vampires, costs a lot of trouble for Elena and Mystic Falls.

In my opinion ”The Vampire diaries” is all that you could ask for an entertaining show: horror, romance, surprising plot-twists and good-looking actors. The series never gets boring. So well, after I had watched about 4 seasons, I thought: ”Why shouldn’t I try these books? They must be even better!” But I was so wrong. And I was kind of really surprised, because like I said in the beginning of this text, I’ve always thought that books are better than the movies/series that are made of them. But I didn’t like ”The Vampire diaries” books at all, mainly because in my view the narrative was bad and confusing, and the atmosphere through the stories were much more grim and depressing than in the TV series. There were also really big differences between the novels and show, which most shocking of them I’m going to present you now:
Firstly, the main character. In the books Elena is a blond haired and blue eyed beauty, but in the show she’s quite opposite with her dark hair and brown eyes. Her personality has changed too: in the books Elena is more self-centered and almost bitchy character, when Katherina is actually not so bad. But in the show, the opposite clearly applies.

Secondly, the minor characters. Almost every person is changed even a little bit. In novels Elena has a four-year-old sister named Margaret, but in the show she has a brother Jeremy who is almost at her age. HUGE difference here. There are also a lot of friend changes in the show as well. For example Elena’s best friend in the books, Meredith, isn’t in the show at all.

Thirdly, characters names. Matt, Elena’s ex, last name changes from Honeycutt in the book to Donovan. Tyler’s (werewolf) last name changes also, and so does Bonnie’s and Elena’s aunt’s.
Even the town’s name is changed from Fell’s Church to Mystic Falls. And for no reason?

Despite of all those changes that seems unnecessary, I think that the TV show is better. ”The Vampire diaries” television series is one good reason to skip your good-night-sleeps. But on the other hand, the books goes deeper with the details of the story and maybe I should give it a change and try reading them again later. Just maybe. And very much later. Like, a hundred years or something.
