Maleficent

Maleficent is a fictional character from Walt Disney’s 1959 film Sleeping Beauty. The film, Maleficent, is formed in this old story from the perspective of the evil mistress. The main actor is seen stunning Angelina Jolie, who plays perfectly Maleficent. The film was released  in the United States on May 30, 2014 and here in Finland on May 28, 2014. And it was directed by Robert Stromberg who has won two Oscars in film production design and for example he has staged  a movie Avatar and Alice in Wonderland.

Maleficent is a powerful fairy who lives in the Moors, a magical forest realm bordering a corrupt human kingdom. As a young girl, she meets and falls in love with a human orphan boy Stefan. When the boy grows, he became familiar with the king and didn’t spend more time with Maleficent. The king was afraid of Maleficent because her great power and he wants to Maleficent’s death. When Stefan finally comes to meet powerful fairy he stuns her to get her strong wings so that he could become the king. When Stefan has crowned to king, he gets a baby girl, Sleeping Beauty, together with his wife. Maleficent is still angry about her wings and curses Stefan’s little  baby eternal sleep when she turns sixteen years. Only the true love’s kiss can broke this curse. The princess grows and Maleficent learns to love her. She wants to broke the curse but she can’t. When the Sleeping beauty fall asleep to an eternal sleep, the prince tries to wake her up with a kiss, without success. Only when Maleficent kisses the girl, she wakes up. The princess crowned to queen of human kingdom together with the Moors and peace and balance is achieved between empires.

In my opinion this version of the Sleeping beauty is more interesting than original. It doesn’t follow the same boring schema and it’s refreshing to hear for once the “bad guy’s” point of view to the story. For once we get some information about background why the bad guys become the bad guy. And in the end you find out that an evil Maleficent has just the broken heart and she is after all the “good guy”.

This film has attracted a lot of opinions, especially because it change so much the original version. But many critics have praised the film’s visuals and costumes. And I really can sign it! Animation is done carefully, and especially The Moors looks breathtakingly beautiful. And I have to say that Angelina Jolie has a lot of effect why this film is so awesome. Maleficent’s costume is made wonderfully and it looks real. Jolie’s gesturing and facial expressions crowns the whole movie and I can promise to you that the song “Once Upon a Dream”, which found in movie’s soundtrack, will be playing in your head for rest of the day.

A Means to an End – Supernatural fanfiction

”I think dad wants us to pick up where he left off. You know, saving people, hunting things. The family business.” – Dean Winchester

Supernatural is an American fantasy horror television series created by Eric Kripke. The first episode aired on September 13, 2005 and in January 2015, it was renewed by the CW for an eleventh season. The show focuses on Dean Winchester and his little brother Sam as they follow their father’s footsteps, traveling through the United States and hunting down any evil supernatural creatures in order to save innocent people. The brothers’ relationship could be described as codependent, as they are willing to do anything to save each other’s lives, even risk their own. As they get deeper and deeper into the world of demons and monsters, they find themselves smack in the middle of a larger scheme of things, involving angels, reapers and the Four Horsemen.

† † †

Dean knew a lot about guns, probably more than he knew about anything else. He knew how to unload and disassemble rifles, revolvers and pistols correctly in order to clean the gun barrel, and how to load it in a matter of seconds, a crucial talent to any hunter of his kind. These actions had become ingrained in his brain through relentless repetition over the course of his life. Now, at 29, he couldn’t even recall the last time he hadn’t held a gun for a full 24 hours.

He liked the sense of security guns brought to him, up to the point where he felt too vulnerable and exposed for his liking whenever he didn’t have a loaded gun under his belt. He liked his gun arsenal, too, and kept every single one of them in immaculate condition. On the occasional tediously uneventful night like the one he was having, he would spread his weapons across the bed in the room of some secluded motel and clean each individual with meticulous attention to detail.

It had been his father who had initiated this interest to guns, by taking 6-year old Dean to an empty field to shoot tin cans off a fence. Dean could still remember the look of pride that lit up on his father’s face when Dean had hit his first bull’s eye. Making his dad proud was something Dean had sought – still sought for. Even though his father was no longer around.

What Dean hadn’t understood back then, though, was that his father hadn’t taught him all he knew about guns just to get to spend some quality father-son time with him. He had done it in order to retaliate the unnatural and untimely death of Mary, his wife, Dean’s mother. In order to find the thing that killed her while offing as many supernatural creatures as possible along the way. In order to raise Dean as a hunter so he could continue his father’s legacy and most importantly, protect his little brother Sam.

Fan ficition of Switched

Switched, is one of the three books from the Trylle series, written by Amanda Hocking. I’m absolutely in love with the books and one of my favorite pairings is, of course, Wendy and Finn.
So basically, after Finn tracks Wendy down and brings her to her new home in Förening, she has to get used to the new lifestyle. Her room has all of the latest technology and she has people do almost everything for her.
It’s kind of hard to explain any of this without it sounding confusing, so I recommend reading the books. Also one of the characters that I didn’t mention, is Rhys, who is Wendy’s brother, but isn’t. See? I told you its kind of confusing, but let’s start.

It was a rainy and gloomy Saturday morning and Wendy has just rolled out of bed. Everyone in the palace, including Finn, were still asleep in their rooms. Wendy had stayed up late trying out some new games that Rhys has gotten her. She had never really been into gaming until she and Rhys had tried different kinds, from shooting zombies to running around with a sword, trying to save the princess. By playing all night, she had lost track of time and forgot to eat. She slowly made her way down the stairs, trying not to wake everyone up, although she secretly wished for Finn to join her for 5am breakfast. Ever since Wendy had returned to the palace and started to hang out with Finn, they had become closer and she felt more comfortable around him than before.

This was a rare opportunity because every morning when Wendy woke up and went downstairs to get breakfast, everyone was already around the table eating. But now, it was all quiet and all you could hear was the rain falling against the enormous glass window at the back of the house. The floor tiles were still a bit cool, due to the sun lurking behind the dark clouds. Wendy made her way to the kitchen, which would’ve been every mom’s or chef’s dream. It was filled with the latest kitchen appliances, plenty of different kinds of silverware, bowls, pots, you name it. The chef had bought a brand-new juice maker, which had been used only a few times so far. Wendy had seen him use it to make fresh juice out of vegetables, fruits and berries, so she thought about giving it a go, by grabbing a few carrots, apples and a handful of blueberries to top it off, since they were her favorite. It was a good thing that the juicer was quiet, otherwise it could’ve woke someone up.

While she was pouring the smoothie-like drink to a tall glass, she heard some footsteps coming from the staircase. Wendy went to the hallway to check and for her surprise, it was Finn, with his dark messy hair and comfy looking pajamas.
”Good morning, Princess”, he said, making a small bow towards her. Every time he said the word ”princess”, Wendy’s heart started to pound a bit faster like it was going to skip a beat.
”Good morning, Finn. Want to join me for breakfast?”, she asked, trying to cover up her slightly blushed cheeks.
”Of course, but only if you let me be the cook,” he said, continuing to walk down the stairs, wiping the sleep out of his eyes. ”You have yet to prove that you could cook well enough”, he chuckled.
”Gee, thanks a lot, Finn. Or should I say, Chef Finn,” Wendy said with a slightly sarcastic tone.

The two walked into the kitchen and Wendy grabbed her drink, facing Finn. ”Want some? I put carrots, apples and some blueberries in it,” she asked, taking a small sip.
”Sure, I guess I can trust you at not trying to poison me,” he laughed, turning on the stove.

Wendy grabbed the same ingredients and turned on the machine. While she was putting the sliced apples and carrots through the processor on the other side of the kitchen, Finn grabbed some cream, milk, flour and other ingredients. He started to whisk some milk, flour and eggs together in a bowl and added a pinch of salt and a little bit of oil into the mix. Wendy poured the drink into a glass and started to peek over Finn’s shoulder, as he was pouring small amounts of the mix onto a pan.
”What are you doing there, chef?”, she asked curiously, moving her head from side to side, trying to see what he was doing.
”I’m making some crepes, Princess,” he said, flipping one of them using the pan.
”Never heard of those before, but it sounds freaking fancy,” she said, holding up Finns drink. ”I got your juice ready by the way, Chef. Better drink up before I do,” she said, giggling.
Finn put the crepe onto a plate and turned to Wendy, took the drink from her and took a sip. ”This actually isn’t that bad. Good job, juice master Wendy, err, I mean Princess,” he chuckled and pat Wendy’s head gently.
”I was thinking if you could lend me a hand and whisk the cream. I’m sure you don’t want to eat just plain crepes for breakfast,” he continued and put the cream, bowl and a whisk on the table.
”Oh, you trust me this much, huh?” she laughed and started whisking the cream.

After she was done, she turned to notice that Finn was all caught up in making the crepes, so she decided to have some fun. She stuck her finger into the bowl to take some cream and walked towards Finn.
”Hey Finn, does this cream look good to you?” she asked, waiting for him to turn around.
”Well, let me take a look. I hope you didn’t screw it up,” he said and turned around. At the same time, Wendy put some cream on to Finn’s nose and cheeks, laughing at how silly he looked like.
”Oh, this is how you play, huh? I should’ve warned you not to play around with me, Princess,” he said and lifted Wendy up on his shoulder and started leaving the kitchen.
”Wait, wait, Finn, what are you doing? Let me down!” she said, trying to make Finn let her go.
”I’m afraid I can’t do that, Princess. I have some other plans. Now please, be quiet or you’re going to wake up everyone else,” he said, making his way upstairs into Wendy’s room.
He opened up the door and walked to her bed, placing her on it. ”Now you wait here while I go get breakfast, okay?” he said, staring at her. His face had this slightly flirty but fun look, and it made Wendy’s heart pound even faster.
”Of course, I’ll wait right here,” she replied nodding.

In a few minutes, Finn came through the door with a nice silver tray. It had a bunch of delicious looking crepes, some whipped cream, orange juice and fresh berries. He placed the tray onto the bedside table and sat on the edge of the bed with Wendy.
”Wow, Finn, that looks really good,” she said, eyeing at the tray on the table.
”Only the best for the Princess,” he said, staring at Wendy and giving her a slight smile. ”Can I get a reward for being a great cook? Maybe a slight kiss?” he asked, turning his cheek to Wendy, tapping his finger against his cheek.
”Why not? A good chef deserves his reward,” she giggles and she leans in to kiss Finn’s cheek, but instead, he turns his head so that Wendy ends up kissing him on the lips.
”Haha, I’m sorry, Princess, I couldn’t resist,” he said chuckling and hugs Wendy tightly.
Wendy and Finn end up eating breakfast in bed together, listening to the rain hit against the window, and of course, enjoy the delicious crepes.
