Casino royale

Casino royale is a action, crime and thriller film released in November 2006. Film directed by Martin Campbellin who was also directed of James Bond other movie Goldeneye (1995).  Film written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and Paul Haggis and film production is Eon Productions. Casino royale is the twenty-first James Bond but it based on Ian Fleming’s novel of the same name, which was the first James Bond story.

The film’s the main actors is Daniel Craig, who act James Bond. I think that Daniel Craig is the best actress in role of James Bond although he doesn’t look like old James Bond. The second important character are Eva Green and Mads Mikkelsen. Eva Green act Vesper Lynd, who is accountant of ministry of finance. Mads Mikkelsen act  an associate of banker and terrorist financier Le Chiffre.

Plot of Casino royale tells Bond’s first mission as an agent-00. Le Chiffre has lost soldier Steven Obano’s money when Bond prevent a terrorist attack which is designed by Le Chiffre. And Le Chiffre sets up a high-stakes texas holdem tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro because he must win back the money. Verper Lynd role is to protect the government’s interests and she gives the money to Bond that he can take part in texas holdem tournament. If James Bond win the tournament MI6 can catch Le Chiffre. But James Bond has also other problems related to Vesper.

The film was shot in Bahamas, Italy and United Kingdom. And at the moment Casino Royale is the most watched Bond film, and 42. the most successful movie.

I like all James Bond movies but I think that Casino royale is best shown and it happens more interesting things than others.

D2: The Mighty Ducks

I watched a sports comedy film D2: The Mighty Ducks (1994), directed by Sam Weisman and produced by Jon Avnet and Jordan Kerner. The movie tells about the USA junior hockey team´s journey trough the Junior Goodwill Games in Los Angeles, California.

The main character is Gordon Bombay, who was one of the best players in the Minor Hockey League. But, in one game, he was injured on purpose by an opponent player. He got a very bad knee injury, and because of that, he had to end his career.

Other important characters in the movie are the players of the ”Ducks”, Player´s teacher Michelle McKay and a wealthy sponsor, Mr. Tibbles.

It all begins when Bombay returned back to his hometown Minneapolis, Minnesota. There he starts to work in a small hockey shop as a skate sharpener. Few days laiter, Mr. Tibbles walks in to the shop, and offers Bombay a worthy contract as a junior hochey team coach. Bombay gathered up the ”Ducks”, and the journey to Los Angeles is ready to begin.

Before the tournament starts, four new players join the ”Ducks”. When the new players had met the ”Ducks”, tournament is ready to start.

On the way to the tournament final, team goes trough many different feelings. Joy, pride, grief and dissapointment. But the most important thing is, that they had grown up as a team. Coach Bombay dissapointed the team because he just thought the money and the glory he had gained. However, Bombay realised that money can´t give him happinnes, so he apologized the team and gave his all time and concentration to the ”Ducks”. Now they can go to the final with an all new attitude and the hunger of winning.

The movie was very exiting and touching. One of the best movies that I have seen. The English language in the movie was sometimes hard, because there was so much ice-hockey glossary in it, but I managed to underestand it very well.

WALL-E

Wall-e (2008) is animation directed by Andrew Stanton and produced by Disney. Family movie is mixture of romantic comedy and science-fiction.

In film the earth is covered with pollution and storms pull apart trash covered continent. Humans have escaped to spaceships and left the earth for robots to clean up. Years go by and after centuries earth is still coveret with dirt. Theres only one robot still running and cleaning up the mess. Animation is a stark narration of direction where we push the earth with our actions. But after all this movie is a typical love story. Wall-e falls in love with this modern robot from humans spaceship, Eve, who is on a mission. In beginning they have struggles on their emotions and when they figure it out big external force which penetrates between them and prevent them from being together. At the end they win sturggles and live happily ever after. In spacecraft people new way of life are shown in their health. They are not working at all and even moving is made easiest possible: they simply dont move, it is taken care of for them. As a result people are overweight and theyr bones are aborted. People situation arent good but after rehabilitation they begin to heal.

The plot of the movie is often carried on non-verbally becouse the main characters are mostly robots and their speech is hard to understand. The only clearly speaking ones are people and they are walk-on in this movie.

Few finnish voice actors of this movie are very famous finnish actors. Jukka Rasila is Wall-e and Jukka Puotila is also along.

I liked this film. Its not like the best film ever, but it is entertaining, funny and it may get you more aware of earths situation right now.

Don Jon

Don Jon is a comedy and drama film written and directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Film is starred by Joseph himself, Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore. This film is Josephs first full-length film as a director.

The simplified plot: The main storyline is about a man called Don Jon. His life is simple, routine based and basically perfect. Well,  not so perfect, he has a serious porn addiction. One of the everyday routines is to go out with friends. And every nights resolution is to pick up a random chick for a one-night stand. Then suprisingly one woman changes all that. That woman is Barbara Sugarman. Once Jon spots her he has to get her, but she isn’t so easy and wants something more serious. After getting together barbara catches him watching porn and threatens with split-up if he doesn’t stop it. Jon tries to stop but does it still when she isnt around. But in the time being she starts to spend more time with him and jon starts to feel intimidated. Then Barbara discovers Jons browser history and breaks up with him. When they were still together barbara persuaded jon to attend evening classes for better job possibilities. During classes jon met older woman Esther and they started to become closer. With Esther Jon learned many important skills in life, and finally even got rid of his addiction.

Characters of the film are interesting. Most interesting is, without the doubt the main character Jon. His personality and habits are just something that you may not understand but still, it feels kinda real, not fake. With further investigation I found out many conflicting opinions about him. I personally think that he is a bit self-centered and obectifies almost everything. On the other hand Barbara Sugarman is a  woman that holds tight of her manners and opinions. Esther is a bit older nice woman in which kind of people you can rely on.

Maybe the biggest thing that caught my eye was usage of traditional camera angles which doesn’t present anything extraordinary. Usually using same passive angle makes you bored eventough not so easily noticeable, but thats’s not the case with this film. There is so much happening all the time that you don’t spot it. The most interesting thing is brave usage of repetition. The same driving scene is shown about ten times but in this it’s just a good thing. And I personally find those scenes very funny.

From my opinion this film is awesome for directors first film, but not the best film of the year. I can recommend this to people who have good sense of humour and aren’t scared or terrified by some naked skin or slight violence.

Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia is a very popular musical which was released in 2008. Right after it became a big worlds knowledge, it became also a huge prosperity.  Mamma Mia is truly joyful and compelling movie and I think it really has deserved its place in spotlights.
Mamma Mia is a wonderful story about a girl, Sophie, who is going married. There is just one problem: She wants her dad to the wedding, but she doesn’t know who her dad is. But Sophie reads her mums diaries (in secret) and finds three possible applicants to be her dad. She is sure that right when she meets her dad, she will recognize him. Everything was supposed to happen without her mum knowing anything. But it’s not that simple, men came to the island where the wedding was meant to be and soon they all said they are Sophie’s dad. And her mum soon finds out that the men are in the island and old memories come out. Shortly nobody really knows what is happening and the story begins. It contains a lot of laugh, singing, bubbling relationships but also sadness and crying, and of course love.
All the actors and actresses did very good work in this musical. They were very personal and piquant, and pretty good singers. You could see amazing interpretation while watching the movie.  Especially Amanda Seyfried (Sophie) and Meryl Streep (Donna, Sophie’s mum) performed a wonderful role. You just can’t help smiling during the movie.
A good musical of course needs good music and that is no problem in Mamma Mia. You can hear a lot of lovely and vivacious interpretations of very popular Swedish band Abba’s songs in movie. They all fit perfect to the plot of movie.
I really love this movie and I have watched it about five or six times and every time I cry and laugh in the same scenes. Mamma Mia is perfect film when you’re tired and you’re not even able to think, you can just watch and enjoy. If you prefer speed and suspense, this is not maybe the best movie, but it’s good variety!

Les Misérables

Les Misérables is a musical drama film released in December 2012 and chosen to be the 2012 film of the year. I think it has fully deserved this, for everything in the movie, from the touching, ingenious plot to exact makeup and styling, is well planned and put into practice.

The main plot is about Jean Valjean, a man who spent 19 years in jail for stealing a piece of bread for a sick child. Through a series of events Valjean ends up promising a dying woman to take care of her soon-to-be-orphan-daughter, Cosette. Jean Valjean and Cosette spend nine years of their life moving from one place to another and hiding from Javert, the policeman who is chasing Valjean for violating his probation. A group of students are planning a revolution under the lead of Marius Pontmercy and his friends Enjolras and Gavroche. Marius falls in love with Cosette, who has grown into a beautiful young woman.  The rest of the story is about the stages of the revolution and how the relationships developed, and shall be left untold if someone hasn’t seen the film yet.

I think one of the most important reasons why this film is so touching and spellbinding is the variety of different characters it provides. That way anyone can relate to the story and find it interesting from their own point of view. My own favorites are Russel Crowe as Javert, struggling with his keen sense of justice,  and Sacha Baron Cohen with Helena Bonham Carter as Mr and Mrs Thénardier, untruthful and unscrupulous innkeepers with whom Cosette used to live with before Valjean took care of her.

A review of Les Misérables can not be done without mentioning the amazing soundtrack composed by Claude-Michel Schönberg. The film is based on the musical Les Misérables, and includes all fourty-seven musical numbers from the original musical. For me and many others music is an important way of conveying feelings, and the brilliance of the music in the movie amazes me every time I watch it. I think Les Misérables is a masterpiece of cinema, music and theatre arts, and I could recommend it to anyone.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) is a fantasy adventure film directed by Peter Jackson, who was also director of The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is the first movie of a three-part film adaptation on the novel ”The Hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolkien.

The story takes place in Middle-earth sixty years before the events of The Lord of the Rings.  An unexpected Journey tells the tale of  Bilbo Baggings (Martin Freeman), who is convinced by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) to join group of thirteen Dwarves, led by legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshild (Richard Armitage). Their quest is to reclaim the Lonely Mountains from the dragon called Smaug. The movie follows Bilbo’s unexpected journey through lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs, Giant Spiders  etc.

The Hobbit movies have been praised for the amazing visual effects and for all the new movie technology used while making the movie(s). For example The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey had HFR (high frame rate), which means the movie used  a shooting and projection frame rate of  48 frames per second, instead of standard 24 frames per second. In fact this movie was the first feature film with wide release to do so.  Because of HFR the movie looks smoother and on top of that the movie has stunning graphics. But to me graphics count for nothing. The reason I watch a film is primarily for a great story and well written characters. I don’t get dazzled by graphics anymore. It just gets to a point where better graphics doesn’t matter anymore.

Even though the movie was visually great, the writing wasn’t at the same level. First of all the introduction was little too long. And all together the whole Hobbit trilogy is way too long for three hundred pages book, and just to maximize profits by having three films at three hours each. Another way to notice movie is poorly written when your heroes are saved at the last minute in multiple scenes. Where does that leave us? It leaves us with all main characters intact and no dramatic tension. Albeit the main story wasn’t well written, the movie characters were very well made and their personalities really shone.

In conclusion the movie was fairly good, I personally liked it though I expected something more. It is worth of watching if you haven’t already seen it.

But Beth ex-husband try to get between Logan and Beth. Becauce Beth and her ex-husband have a boy, Ben. The ex-husband doesn’t be so nice to Logan. The situation get totally out of control. The end is not so good to everybody.

Plot is almost same than everyone other drama and romantic films. But I like this movie. I enjoy when I watch this film. That is touching and interesting film. You could identify everyone because they are so real. The actors were great and they fit good their role. It is easy to follow what they say. They speak very clearly. Music was good and beutiful. The music is compose Mark Isham. The movie don’t fit so young people because they don’t understand everything. If you like romantic and drama films I recommend The Lucky One movie to you.

Life as we know it

Life as we know it is a hilarious movie with drama and romance added in it. The movie was released in 2010 and is directed by Greg Berlanti.

Life as we know it is a story about two people who can’t stand eachother, Holly (Katherine Heigl) and Eric (Josh Duhamel), and who are forced to take a huge responsibility together. Holly is a control freak and hard working bakery owner and Eric is working as a televisions technical sports director and he’s a huge womanizer. These two are the exact opposites and the only thing they have in common is that they happen to be the godparents of the third main character of the story, a little babygirl Sophie.

The movie has a really sad beginning when Sophies parents pass away and the baby is left to Holly and Eric. They are both named as Sophies caretakers so they have to start living together and start looking after her. From that moment on there will be a lot of fun scenes when these two, Holly and Eric, try to be good parents. This movie reveals the horrors and wonders of parenthood in a humorous way. It’s interesting to watch how these two so very different people and little Sophie are starting to become a family.

Life as we know it is suitable for those who want to watch something light and hilarious. I myself like these kind of movies the most and this one is definitely one of the best I’ve seen. The subject of the movie might not be very unique or fresh, but who doesn’t love a good romanctic comedy? All the little details of the story make it easy to empathise. The secret of this films excellence is that the main characters are played by Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel. These two work well together and make the movie worth watching.

The secret life of Walter Mitty

The secret life of Walter Mitty

”The secret life of Walter Mitty” is for everyone who needs some inspiration in their lives. This movie is released in 2013 and directed By Ben Stiller, who is also one of the leading actors. The movie is a mixture of comedy, fantasy, drama and adventure. In addition to Ben Stiller(Walter Mitty), other leading actors are Kristen Wiig(Cheryl) and Sean Penn(Sean O´Connel).

I have always liked movies containing comedy and fantasy. You don’t get bored, because the movie is full of excitement and funny parts. And that’s why I wanted to see this film.

The movie tells about Walter Mitty, middle-aged shy and quiet man, who works in “Life”- magazine. Walter doesn’t have an exciting life or that many friends, but he has everything in his day dreams. In his dreams he saves the world and gets the love of his life.  One day when he almost gets fired for work, he realizes that he had to do something with his life and travel to make memories. And while thinking a moment he travels to Greenland and Iceland, where he unexpectedly swims with sharks and climbs to worlds highest mountains.

After watching the movie, my first impressions were that it was great. The story was well done from beginning to end and it was also very instructive. All of the actors were plausible with their own way, and that’s why many people could identify to them. I could identify to main character, Walter, because he was like any normal person, who wanted to achieve something in his life. He fought hard and reached his target.

My favorite part of the movie was the scene, where Walter won his fear and spur of the moment jumped to the helicopter where he was afraid to go. But after jumping to helicopter, he realized what he has done and got nervous, but still was very proud of himself.  That part made me understand, that it’s good to be fearless and spontaneous sometimes, because then you can do what you have always wanted to do.

The atmosphere in the film was inspiring and rapid, but still warm and nice, that made the film very easy to follow. I didn’t even notice the time pass. After watching the film I realized that I can do anything I want, if I just work hard for it.
