Cry-Baby

Cry-Baby is release 1990 in America. It is a romantic comedy musical film directed and written by John Waters. Leading actors are Johnny Depp  (Cry-Baby Walker), Amy Locane (Allison Wernon-Williams), Polly Bergen, Susan Tyrrell, Iggy Pop, Ricki Lake and Traci Lords.

The film is a story about love between two person who come from totally different world. Cry-Baby Walker is a member of ”drapes” a group which is collected of bad girls and boys. They often brake the law and usually other people are scared of them. Cry-Baby falls in love with Allison, a girl whose grandmother is very important person in the town. Allison is a square. The squares are very decent and responsible group. So the film is telling a story of  Cry-Baby and Allison and their love and problems when two cultures smash into each others. When Cry-Baby end up into prison, their love is on a test. Finally love wins and the cultures intertwine. All the scenes happens in 1950’s Baltimore Maryland.

When I saw the film for the first time, it became my favorite film instantly. Even though the story was very normal love story, the implementation was perfect! Characters were good and believable and all the songs transports the listener.

I think that I can’t identify with any character because they live in so different world that I live. Characters were very plausible and perfect for their roles. I’m sure that Johnny Depp brakes many hearts by acting Cry-Baby. My favourite part was when the other main character, Allison, is singing to the Cry-Baby in front of the jail. The film was filmed for musical and romantic lovers and for people who likes the old rock ’n’ roll atmosphere and style. Movie was easy and nice to follow and it felt like time was flying. I have not done anything differently.

I agree! I love this movie and especially Johnny Depp’s performance. I can’t even imagine any other person playing role of Cry-Baby. The look in his eyes gives me the ridges of backbone. Every time.
