The American Psycho

The most recent film that I’ve watched is probably the American Psycho. I’ve seen this particular film a numerous times but I decided to watch it again.

The plot itself goes like this; the main character, Patrick Bateman (played by Christian Bale) is a materialistic wealthy investment banker living in Manhattan in the late 1980′s. His life consists mostly of dining in fancy restaurants and practicing his materialistic behavior in his lifestyle, which includes a strict morning exercise and a beautification routine, his  extensive music collection and his taste for rather expensive designer clothes. Behind all this he commits rape, murder and torture.

I don’t want to write a more specific description of the plot as I want to avoid spoiling the movie for people that haven’t seen it yet.

The genre is pretty evident; it’s a thriller. More specifically, a satirical psychological thriller. You could even call it social horror if you will. Not much to say about this, it’s kind of obvious that the film is pretty peculiar and freaky from time to time. It can be quite hard to understand and it’s quite oppressive. As you might imagine, not everyone will like it and it is a rather violent and graphical film.

The camerawork is pretty straightforward, nothing special, nothing bad. Your usual good camerawork with no considerable flaws whatsoever. The camera is placed well within the scenes.

The soundtrack is composed by John Cale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Cale) and it’s pretty fantastic althought I don’t know that much about movie soundtracks or orchestral music. There is not much to say about that either, the soundtrack that is, other than it fits the movie very nicely and really reinforces the atmosphere of the overall movie. Here is an example of the soundtrack in this particular movie; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTVwFlPI5go&feature=related

The special effects are quite detailed and well made. The most effects you see thought, are blood and other graphical events. There are not that much special effects in the scenes except for the lighting.

Overall, the movie is very good and enjoyable if you happen to like this kind of movies. It’s worth the watch.

Dark Shadows

Tim Burton’s newest film tells about Barnabas Collins (Johnny Depp) who lives in 1800-century. He used to love his maid Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green) but fells in love with another girl. Angelique comes jealous and reveals that she is a witch. She bewitches Barnabas loved one to make a suicide. When Barnabas tries to jump after her, she turns him into a vampire. Then Angelique and villages lock him to a chained coffin under the ground. In the year 1972 construction workers find the coffin and Barnabas becomes free. Soon he realizes that things have changed a lot and decides to meet his new relatives.

This film is based on gothic and humoristic soap opera made in seventies so there are also other supernatural creatures like werewolves, witches and zombies and black humor. I rented this film because I like Johnny Depp and films made by Tim Burton but I have to admit that I was little bit disappointed.

Storyline was little bit predictable and average. It was nice entertainment but I would not watch it again. Humor in this movie is based on differences between 1800-century and seventies. I liked most of the humor and Johnny Depp did great job in these parts. Main point of the story is about how Barnabas starts to revitalize Collins family’s mansion and fishing company. Beginning was actually really interesting but then storyline started to rush too much. Because of that ending was too unclear.

Characters in this movie stayed too distant to me. Barnabas good-looking witch-ex Angelique was really annoying and she always gets angry if she doesn’t get what she wants. But it was fun that Barnabas role was like old time Dracula. I liked his personality and way of speech. Though, he reminded me of Edward Scissorhands. In this movie are lots of sideroles and it was a shame that very interesting characters were only couple of minutes on the screen.

Johnny Depp managed well as usual in his role but there were also other good and well-known actors like Christopher Lee and Helena Bonham Carter. Surprising fact to me was that Alice Cooper also visits in this movie as himself. There were also cameo roles from original soap opera.

Props in this movie were very good. I liked the little village next to the sea with is called Collinsport (named by Collins family in 1800-century). There were lots of old cars, colorful houses and it really felt that they were in 1970-century. The mansion where Collins family lives was also nice because there were lots of ornaments and details.

If you are huge Johnny Depp or vampire fan I think that you should watch this movie, unless if you like the good storylines more than characters.

Sex And The City (1998-2004)

Sex And The City (so-called S.A.T.C.) is television series that bases on writer Candace Bushnell’s book of the same name and was originally aired at first time on 6th of July 1998 by HBO. S.A.T.C. is filmed by single camera set-up and it’s created by Darren Star. There is also two soundtrack-albums from Irma Records that are made for especially this television series and which contain tracks from various artists. Sex And The City represents blue comedy and romantic-dramedy at its best – The television series gained an explosive popularity, and overall six seasons (94 episodes) was produced.
S.A.T.C.’s main character, Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), writes a column, in which she ponders questions about herself, relationships, the differences between men and women, and life in general. S.A.T.C. is also narrated by Carrie and it is located to New Jersey, France and as you might guess, mainly in the New York City. There are also three close friends of Carrie’s who have a key role in S.A.T.C.: Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall) – three in their mid-thirties and one in her forties. In every episode, Carrie writes her column and makes the philosophical questions, that pop into her mind. The television series got a lot of attention because it deals with things that we do not dare to speak out loud. When you follow the series, you can see how their lives go forward and how their lives move on little by little.
Four single female New Yorkers took place in the hearts of women all over the world. Many were disappointed when it was announced on 2004 that the Sex And The City would not be produced anymore. Four years later, in May 2008 the television series was continued in the form of a movie, and after that also a second part of movie was released. In my opinion, the most memorable phrase Carrie says is at the end of the last season: “Later that day I got to thinking about relationships. There are those that open you up to something new and exotic, those that are old and familiar, those that bring up lots of questions, those that bring you somewhere unexpected, those that bring you far from where you started, and those that bring you back. But the most exciting, challenging and significant relationship of all is the one you have with yourself. And if you can find someone to love the you you love, well, that’s just fabulous.”

Rocky (1976)

Rocky (1976)

Rocky is a American sport drama film, directed by John G. Avildsen. It came out in 1976 and it was both written by and starring Silvester Stallone, who at that time was not so famous. Thank this film he caught on and he became one of the most well-known Hollywood actors. The movie won three Oscar prizes. Omong them the one as best film and best direction. Thank this movie. Stallone became the third man in the cinema history after Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles to receive, for the same film, the Oscar nomination both for best scriptwriter and best actor.

Rocky is a amateur boxer from Philadelphia who is not able to stave due to several reasons. Therefore, his trainer, Mickey Goldmill, sequestered him his locker and he caught the occasion to point out how much, according to his opinion, he is a shoddy boxer. In fact he defined Rocky as a smoke cheese. When he is not in the ring, Rocky earns money as usurer for Mr. Gasco, an Italian-American gangster who commands in a suburb of the city. Rocky’s best friend is Paulie Pennino, Italian-American as he is, with whom he spends lots of time. Rocky is very interesting in Paulie’s sister, a shy girl, he is attracted to. Thanksgiving Day, Rocky and Adriana went out and at the end he managed to snatch a kiss, and then they got engaged. In the meanwhile, the undefeated heavyweight champion Apollo Creed comes to Philadelphia to find a challenger for a match organized to celebrate the anniversary of the Bicentennial of the United States of America. As the official challenger got injured, and therefore not participating in the match in that the champion will be raffling the world heavyweight title, Apollo decided to give a complete stranger in Philadelphia the opportunity to face for the title, taking the opportunity to increase their already immense popularity. Almost by accident, the yearbook of the boxers is just the name of Rocky and nicknamed ”the Italian Stallion”, and instructs its agents to contact him. Needless to say that for Rocky it was a unique opportunity, destined to change totally his life, through which he would become a “hero” in the eyes of the people. After making up with his trainer, Rocky started to work out seriously for the match. Even if he was supposed to be defeated at the start, Rocky looked very fit. After the triumphal arrival of Apollo on the ring, Rocky proved his skills in the first round, managing to knock a champion for the first time. The challenge was supposed to be only a farce, instead turns in a tough battle for the sample. Rocky went on successfully and during the 15th round he managed to strike his opponent devastatingly, but then the previous champion was saved by the bell of the end of the match. The verdict is given: Creed won on points and kept the world-champion title, but audience cheers only Rocky, that after driving out people around him, hugged Adriana, who managed to climb to the ring. The two declare their mutual love, crowning a mix of emotions the most beautiful day of their lives.

Rocky is definitely one of my favourite movies. I like the essence of protagonist, it proves that everything is possible if you just give your whole life for it. I have watched it about five times and I can watch it again and again. Watching Rocky always gives energy and motivation to sport trainings and give everything you have got. I love the way  Sylvester Stallone is acting, he just makes films feel so true and stops me think about possibilities in world.

Inception (2010)

Inception is a film what tells about Dominick ”Dom” Cobb(Leonardo DiCaprio) and business partner Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who perform corporate espionage by using an experimental military-developed machine to infiltrate the subconscious of their targets and extract information while dreaming. The plot is very confusing because there are moments when you are not sure if it is a dream or reality. Also in dream is three different levels and you are not sure are characters in dream level two or three but when you keep watching the movie you dont lose the red line of the plot.

I was amazed by the acting in the movie and i think the casting fitted in the movie very well. Main characters in the film are Dom,Arthur,Saito(Ken Watanabe)there are also other characters in the movie but i dont keep them so important.Characters were working good together and i could not think any other actors to the movie.

The score for inception was written by Hans Zimmer who is a famous music producer. He has also produced music to The Lion King movie. He describes inceptions music electronic filled with nostalgia and sadnnes to match Dom’s feelings. In the movie was emotional moments which fixed together with music very well.I think that the movie have maybe the best music i have heard.

The movie is filled with different special effects and they all are brilliant.Special effects are made by camera and little bit computer.they wanted to do as much as possible in-camera,and then,if necessary, computer graphics.

The movie is a fictional film, with science fiction, heist film and film noir.In the movie you realize a thousand times that all is fictional even in the end you think cobb gets back to the normal life but seems like the hole movie is dream! I am not sure about that but i think so.The viewer can make the own decisions. The movie was great and I recomment it.

Stand by Me (1986)

I choose the movie, Stand by me, because it’s definitely one of my favourite movies. It also isn’t that recent. The movie came out in 1986 and it is based on Stephen King’s novel; the Body.

The movie begins from the year 1986. Gordie Lanchance has just heard, that his childhood friend, Chris, has died. He starts remembering his youth, how he and three of his friends, Chris, Teddy and Vern, left their small hometown to go looking for a body, and become local heroes. Also a gang of older  boys had planned of discovering the body. Young , twelve-year-old boys decided to go and find the body on foot, even if the distance was dozens of kilometers. On the way happens many risky things and they experience all the moments of joy and sorrow. Boys find the body, but so does the gang of older boys. Then, with a gun that Chris had brought, Gordy frightens the gang away. Boys decide to make an anonymous phonecall to the authorities. They go back home, and say goodbye to each other. It was their last summer together.

Characters are really significant in this movie. It doesn’t have any miraculous special effects, so it’s all about them. As a group of friends, Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern are brilliant.                                                                                                                                 Gordie, the storyteller, is very clever, but also rather shy. He is very much afraid, that his parents don’t  care about him, because his older brother, who was very well-thought-of, died a while ago.                                                                                                                       Chris is a very peaceful person, though missunderstood. He comes from a family that has a criminal backgroud. Chris tries to seem as a tough person outwars, but in reality, he likes school and wants to succeed there.                                                                                 Teddy is the real adventurer of the group. His father has ended up to a mental hospital, and Teddy can’t stand if someone insults his father.                                                                Vern is a bit coward, and maby the most naive (thouhg they are only twelve). He would always want to choose the safest route and he says wrong things at the wrong time.     Ace is the gang leader, ”the bad guy”, who never thinks about anyone else than himself.

On my opinion, actors in the movie are very appropriate to their roles. It’s a pity, that some of the actors haven’t succeed very well after Stand by Me. Kiefer Sutherland (Ace’s actor) is surely the most famous nowadays. Another noted actor is Corey Feldman (Teddy), who has acted for example at the Lost Boys. River Phoenix (Chris) died in 1993 of an overdose of drugs. Before his death he had time to act in movies like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and My Own Private Idaho. Wil Wheaton (Gordie’s actor) has been in Big Bang Theory’s seasons from 3 to 5. Jerry O’Connell (Vern’s actor) has been acting in movies like Scream 2 and Kangaroo Jack.

The movie’s soundtrack is light-hearted and it has many well-known 50’s tracks. They’re not maby known by name, but when you hear it, you’ll recognize it (for example;Buddy Holly: Everyday, The Chordettes: Lollipop and Ben E. King: Stand by Me).

By thinking, that this movie is based on Stephen King’s novel, you might think it is some kind of a thriller. Despite King’s name, it’s a drama, that tells about friendship and a big adventure.

Shooter (2007)

Shooter (2007)

Shooter is an action film, directed by Antoine Fuqua in 2007. Mark Wahlberg is playing the main character Bob Lee Swagger, who is a former United States Marine scout sniper. The story takes off when Bob Lee Swagger is framed for the assassination of the President.

Characters in the movie: Bob’s friend Donnie Fenn is played by Lane Garrison. In the beginning of the movie, Bob and Donnie are completing a task, until they are abandoned during it. They are left alone in the desert and the only company they have are dozens of enemies. Donnie doesn’t make it. Donnie’s wife Sarah Fenn (Kate Mara) gives Bob shelter during the manhunt. There is also another one who helps Bob: Nick Memphis (Michael Peña) who works for the FBI and believes in Bob’s innocence. The villain in the movie is Isaac Jonhson, played by Danny Glover. Johnson framed Swagger.

For the most part, the movie is filmed in Columbia, Canada and Philadelphia, United States. The movie is produced by Paramount Pictures and it is edited by Conrad Byff and Eric Sears. There are many special effects in the movie. For example a lot of explosions and guns. In the movie Swagger uses the same weapons as real United States Marines use. The movie has been made as real as possible. Shooter’s genre is definitely action. The exact genre is thriller action film.

The budget of the movie was 61 million dollars, and the box office result is over 95 million dollars. Mark Mancina made the soundtrack with a 77-piece orchestra.

Shooter is definitely my favorite movie. I have watched this movie about five times and I can watch it again and again. I love Mark Wahlberg’s acting and everything about this movie. I like guns, explosions and everything about army, so the movie is for me. Best movie ever.

Me, myself & Irene

I liked the movie. It’s old, but great!
Movie is fun to watch!

Plot

Me, myself & Irene is a story about a middle aged man, named Charlie (Jim Carrey). Charlie is a police, but still no one respects him.

Charlie is really a nice and positive guy, whose wife leaves with another man ,leaving Charlie alone with three black little boys.

Charlie keeps his pokerface and acts like nothing happened, and continues with his normal life. Time passes, boys grow up, and Charlie has had enough, his second personality, Hank, steps in. Hank is the complete opposite of Charlie. While Charlie is really nice and can’t really defend himself, Hank is rude and definitely stands up for himself and acts like a badass.

Charlie (and Hank) meets a woman named Irene (Renée Zellweger) and falls in love with her. Together they experience all kind of things.

Soundtrack

The movies premiere was in early 2000 and these are some song’s from the movie:

”Breakout” – Foo Fighters
”Deep Inside of You” –  Third Eye Blind
”Only A Fool Would Say That” – Ivy
