The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

The movie The Shawshank Redemption is 1994 an American drama film, which is written and directed by Frank Darabont. This movie has received the IMDB top 250 list of the best reviews. The film is a based on the Stephen King’s book Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption.

Cast: Tim Robbins plays Andy Dufresne. He is a well an educated and smart banker imprisoned for the murder of his wife and her lover. (starring)

Morgan Freeman plays Ellis Boyd ”Red” Redding. He is Andy’s friend and fellow prison inmate. He was convicted of murder in 1927. (starring)

Bob Gunton plays Warden Samuel Norton, the pious, but corrupted warden of Shawshank Penetentiary. William Sadler plays Heywood, a member of Red’s gang of long-serving convicts. Clancy Brown plays Captain Byron Hadley, the sadistic captain of the prison guards.

Plot: Events begin in the late 1940s. The film tells about a young, quiet, and smart banker Andy Dufresne, who is sentenced to two life imprisonment for his wife and his lover’s murder and sent to prison for serving the sentence in Shawshankin. In prison, Dufresne became friends with an older inmate Red from whom he is able to get everything that he needs. This brings these two men together. At the same time Dufresne decides to develop an incredible escape plan.

The film’s budget was $25 million and box office was $28,341,469. The film running time is 142 minutes and I think it wasn’t neither too short nor too long. I chose this movie because I think it is the best movie I have ever seen. The plot was unexpected. You couldn’t ever know what was going to happen next. Although the movie is quite old, it didn’t bother at all. I would recommend this movie to everyone who likes films with exciting story with a happy ending.
