Frozen

Frosen is Disney’s animated movie that released in 2013. It was rated as one of the best Disney movie ever made. It is a story about Queen Elisa ja her sister little sister Anna. In the film Elsa has special power that freezes her surrounding. The only problem comes along when her power goes out of control. When that happened at her coronation day she made an eternal winter accidentally, because she was upset with her sister. Elsa leaves to the mountains to be alone and to make sure that she can’t hurt anyone anymore. As that happens the adventure begins when Anna goes to find her sister from the mountains and try to convince her to come back home. On the road she meets a boy, trolls and a talking snowman Olaf, who doesn’t know a thing about summer.

The screenplay is really funny and intresting tp watch, but you can clearly see that it’s made with computer like every animated  film nowdays. The songs of the movie are capturing and easily be stucked in you’re head for days. Well at least that’s what happened to me. One of the lead singers Indina Menzel is multi-talented and hits spectacular notes in the song called ”Let it go” which is in my opinion the most famous song of the movie. One of my favourite character of the movie is Olaf, the talking snowman, who shares sweet love around him and entertains with his cute sayings like ”some people are worth melting for”.

For me this movie is really sweet and good Disney movie. Pretty much everyone who has seen the film says that finally there is a princess movie that teaches girls they don’t need a boy or in this case a prince to save them and i agree to that. This time sisters save each other and they don’t need any man to help them. I also find it parable to real life when Elsa has a secret she can’t met anyone to know. In my opinion everyone has something so private that theydon’t want to or just simply can’t share it with others. Also everyone has something so unique like Elsa that nobody else has. I think this movie talks about letting those things go that keeps you reserved and just being yourself with every special power you have. Those two are the most important lessons of this movie. Becausethis is a childrens movie so there’s got to be a lessom or two.

In over all this movie is positive experience and great to watch with your friends or your family, expecially with youngest members of family.

Prisoners

Usually kidnapping thrillers start by filming a happy family dining in the kitchen table and soon their life will be shattered. Denis Villeneuve´s “Prisoners” (2013) does not start like that. In the first few minutes the father Keller Dover (Hugh Jackman), whom seems humorless and intense, lectures his son on how to always be prepared for the worst in life. There is always something to do in a tough situation. The dad has also collected a huge storage of canned food in the family´s basement just in case of catastrophe. It becomes clear to everyone that this man is not one you want to play with.

“Prisoners” deals with always topical genre but with a little twist. Two six-years-old suburban kids disappear and the only clue is a creepy RV, which had been seen parked in the neighborhood earlier. During the movie it really hits me: tens of thousands people disappear like this every day and practically no-one will never see them again. Keller’s daughter Anna is the other kidnapped girl and Keller becomes really aggressive due this situation and the mom becomes deeply depressed. Aspects of ”Prisoners” are effective, but for the most part it’s rather ridiculous, despite the fact that it clearly wants to be taken seriously. Acting is more or less aggravating and Hugh Jackman seems to try too hard to be concerned father in his leading role. His screaming through the film tells how weak this father is and that all he needs is something to make him feel powerful.

Investigating does not lead to anything because of  the RV owners mental abilities are more like toddlers. Alex is released due to lack of evidence and Dover takes matters to his own hands and kidnaps RV´s owner Alex (Paul Dano) and violates him several times. Jake Gyllenhaal, whom plays detective Loki, has internalized policeman habits super-well. Gyllenhaal has had many film festival nominees from this supporting actor role. Again a nice performance from Gyllenhaal. Dano is unfamiliar actor to me but he really made it interesting to see how the movie ends. To my surprise the ending was nothing to be expected and somehow it seemed like it ended a bit short and the viewer must guess how the story ends. The whole movie seemed to lose some of my interest because of the short ending. I waited over two hours and in a blink of an eye it was suddenly over. I was left cold.

Director Villeneuve gives a couple of truly suspenseful scenes. One is a chase through the nighttime back yards of the neighborhood after a candlelight vigil. By the time the viewer has almost forgotten this scenery, this mysterious man reveals to be part of this crazy revenge theory.

The movie didn´t seem to have too much music playing in any point but there certainly was noices making scenes more convincing and it worked well with the movie itself. Sondtrack fitted well to the movie.

After watching this movie I was amazed by the brilliant camerawork. It was obvious right  from the start that the camerawork was out of this world. The scenery is rather dark and it highlights this oppressive atmosphere and there are quite much close sceneries and interesting perspectives. When I heard that “Prisoners” had had Oscar nominee for it´s filming – I wasn´t surprised.

Without further do “Prisoners” is a great movie and it makes me think just how far we are willing to go to protect our family.

If I Stay

If I Stay (2014), is the drama movie directed by R.J. Cutler. It is based on the novel by Gayle Forman’s If I Stay for 2009. In the leading role of the film (Mia) is young and beautiful Chloë Grace Moretz. In the film as in real life, she is only 17 years old. Mia has boyfriend Adam who acts the role in Jamie Blackley. Mia and Adam are really different persons, but they have one thing what they both love the whole heart, music. Adam sings in the band and Mia plays a cello incredibly well. Music brought them together.

To sum up, the movie tells about young love, a passion for music, family and friendships, until happens a turning point, the car accident. The main character has to fight for life or death. As usual, this movie is not just waiting if Mia is going to wake up or not and relatives are crying beside her bed. It is much deeper and sensitive. Basically, Mia can choose if she wants to live or not. I think the movie is great done in all regions but especially while in a coma, Mia is outside the physical body, and she goes through her life and wonders if she should stay. After the accident her life wouldn’t be the same, so the decision is anything but easy. Adam is big part of her decision and by all means he is trying to make her stay. At the end of the movie, Adam’s scene next to Mia’s bed and at the same time Mia’s ”spirit” is looking at Adam is one of my favorite part of the movie. I bet many people can’t watch this scene without crying.

The movie is in all truth really touching and it is described so well. I think, young love power and passion for music just make this movie stole my heart. Of course respect to young actors who made the film so realistic. You must absolutely figure out by watching the movie whether if she stays.

The movie is quite new and that is why I want to write about it. I hope everyone who is interested in drama movies and little bit romantic will watch this someday. I can only recommend it.

A Means to an End – Supernatural fanfiction

”I think dad wants us to pick up where he left off. You know, saving people, hunting things. The family business.” – Dean Winchester

Supernatural is an American fantasy horror television series created by Eric Kripke. The first episode aired on September 13, 2005 and in January 2015, it was renewed by the CW for an eleventh season. The show focuses on Dean Winchester and his little brother Sam as they follow their father’s footsteps, traveling through the United States and hunting down any evil supernatural creatures in order to save innocent people. The brothers’ relationship could be described as codependent, as they are willing to do anything to save each other’s lives, even risk their own. As they get deeper and deeper into the world of demons and monsters, they find themselves smack in the middle of a larger scheme of things, involving angels, reapers and the Four Horsemen.

† † †

Dean knew a lot about guns, probably more than he knew about anything else. He knew how to unload and disassemble rifles, revolvers and pistols correctly in order to clean the gun barrel, and how to load it in a matter of seconds, a crucial talent to any hunter of his kind. These actions had become ingrained in his brain through relentless repetition over the course of his life. Now, at 29, he couldn’t even recall the last time he hadn’t held a gun for a full 24 hours.

He liked the sense of security guns brought to him, up to the point where he felt too vulnerable and exposed for his liking whenever he didn’t have a loaded gun under his belt. He liked his gun arsenal, too, and kept every single one of them in immaculate condition. On the occasional tediously uneventful night like the one he was having, he would spread his weapons across the bed in the room of some secluded motel and clean each individual with meticulous attention to detail.

It had been his father who had initiated this interest to guns, by taking 6-year old Dean to an empty field to shoot tin cans off a fence. Dean could still remember the look of pride that lit up on his father’s face when Dean had hit his first bull’s eye. Making his dad proud was something Dean had sought – still sought for. Even though his father was no longer around.

What Dean hadn’t understood back then, though, was that his father hadn’t taught him all he knew about guns just to get to spend some quality father-son time with him. He had done it in order to retaliate the unnatural and untimely death of Mary, his wife, Dean’s mother. In order to find the thing that killed her while offing as many supernatural creatures as possible along the way. In order to raise Dean as a hunter so he could continue his father’s legacy and most importantly, protect his little brother Sam.

Rocky

What could be more unbelievable than fight for boxing’s heavyweight champion title?

Well, that’s just what ”Rocky’s” story tells about. Rocky is an American sports drama film. It is directed by John G. Avildsen, written by and also starring Sylvester Stallone. It tells about unknown boxer, Rocky Balboa, from Philadelphia who is now challenged to fight against heavyweight champion. That is Rocky’s chance to come famous. Movie won three Oscars and it’s theme song ”Gonna Fly Now” by Bill Contin, has come very popular song. Movie has got five sequels, Rocky II, Rocy III, Rocky IV, Rocky V and Rocky Balboa.

Now I’ll tell you about the movie’s plot shortly. So, as I told you, Rocky Balboa is a small-time boxer and also collector for a little criminal named Anthony Gazzo. At the same time a heavyweight champion Apollo Creed is looking for opponent boxer to exhibition match on New Year’s day. All opponents refuse, trying to explain that there is not enough time to get in shape. Creed gets an idea that he could give a chance for someone unknown boxer, just like Rocky. After a long persuasion Rocky takes up the challenge and starts hard training.

At the same time Rocky falls in love with shy and quiet Adrian who works in a local pet store. Adrian’s brother, Paulie gets jealous because of the new relationship. But because he is Rocky’s good friend, he finally accepts it. Also Rocky’s coach, Mickey is against Adrian at first. He claims that ”women weaken legs” and tells Rocky that he should leave Adrian, but Rocky refuses to do that and they stay together.

When the New Year’s day finally comes, Apollo Creed is still thinking that he is going to fight a show match. Rocky takes it much more seriously. Apollo notices that, when Rocky knocks him out on first round (no one else has never knocked him out). After that fight comes more serious and more bloody. Rocky and Apollo fight violently to the end and when the bell rings on the final round both fighters are still standing up. Finally Apollo Creed wins the fight with points and tells Rocky that ”there will be no rematch”. Rocky answers that ”you don’t want me” – so neither he wants rematch.

Movie ends when audience goes wild and Rocky and Adrian profess their love to each other.

I have to say, Rocky – including it’s sequels – is the best sport movie I have ever seen.

The Fountain

The Fountain is a science-fiction, romantic drama movie directed by Darren Aronofsky starring Hugh Jackman who is acting three different roles (Tom, Tom in future and  Tomás) and Rachel Weisz with two different roles (Izzi and Queen Isabella). The movie was released the 22. November 2006 in the United States.

The plot is a bit complicated to explain shortly but anyway it is divided into three different story lines, which take turns until the movie ends. There is the past which is in 1535, the presence and the future that is in 2500. All three story lines have their own meanings which are all connected with each other. If you put them together,  you’ll get one combination which completes a mind-boggling story line that gives you an unbelievable sight of love, death, immortality and the fragility of the human existence.  Each story line is about finding the eternal life.

In my opinion the movie is unique. the idea of such a story line is incredible. There are alot of different meanings for life and death you can ponder off and the story also consists of religion and history. For example, do you believe in reincarnation or in the eternal life ?

In the past Tomas the conquistator searches for the tree of life to safe the Queens life. In presence Tom is a scientist who tries to save Izzi from a brain tumor. In the future, which i like most, Tom tries to get a three to the star Xibalba where people can be reborn I personally like the future story the most because it looks like a dream and you can’t really understand the meaning behind it without careful watching. The interesting thing about the three in the future is that it is meant to be an incarnation of Izzi.

The actors are really skilled you can especially see it when the roles of the story lines are changing. The body language, how they talk and the impression  is changing.  I see perfection when you put the characters together, each has his own strength. Tomas has the body strength and ambition, Tom has the theoretical knowledge and intelligence and the future Tom the physical and inward force.  One thing that attracted attention on me was the atmospheres, when one story line got hysteric the other got hysteric too and when it changed the other changed too.

When I watched the movie I got a really weak and compassionate feeling from it, which almost made me cry. I think it was affected by the dark/deep and dreamy colors and the sad  soundtrack. The Fountain is also known for it’s amazing light effects.

Some people who like alot of action may thing that its boring because the plot has one red thread meaning one signification which it is keeping all movie long. Thought it is simple, it somehow has a mixture of something i can’t say in words. I’d like to recommend this movie to everyone who loves to cogitate about life and death and the big meaning behind it. It teaches us to not try to find  the source of eternal life and that we have to accept the death in the natural way. I think that The Fountain is a incredibly  succeeded movie and  that Darren Aronofsky made a really good job with it.

Mad Men

I have recently found a great period drama TV-series named Mad Men. It really got me hooked after only one episode and in a few weeks I´ve watched almost entire series. The first episode premiered on July 19, 2007 and the second half of the final season (number 7) will premiere on this spring. All in all there are seven seasons and 85 episodes. The series is created by Matthew Weiner. Mad Men tells about advertising agency on Madison Avenue in New York City and it´s set in the 1960s. The name of the series, ”Mad Men” was a slang term used in 1950s by advertisers working on Madison Avenue. Main character is Donald ”Don” Draper (Jon Hamm) who is a partner of advertising agency. He drinks and smokes a lot, has many affairs with women and he has been in Korean War. He is charismatic and very good at his work. His love life is really colorful.

Even though Mad Men focuses mostly in Donald Draper´s life, there are plenty of other lead characters too. Betty Francis, formerly Draper (January Jones), is Don´s ex-wife. She got three children with him. Peggy Olson (Elisabeth Moss) is a hard-working young woman who works as a copywriter. The career is in the first place in her life. Pete Campbell (Vincent Kartheiser) is ambitious young account executive from rich and old New York family. Roger Sterling (John Slattery) is the senior partner of agency and he is good friend of Don. Joan Harris (Christina Hendricks) is office manager and head of the secretarial pool at the agency. She is clever, beautiful and had affair with Roger Sterling. I can honestly say that all these characters are excellent; there is something interesting in every one of them. Don Draper is handsome and charismatic, a little bit mysterious and true womanizer. Betty Francis is cold and bored housewife. Peggy Olson is sweet and diligent; Pete Campbell for one is suitably annoying and devious. Roger Sterling is outspoken and probably the funniest character in the series. Joan Harris is lovely, good-hearted woman.

Mad Men is a great series for many reasons. It describes well the American society in 1960s. Cigarette smoking, drinking, adultery, racism and homophobia are on display in episodes. Despite of the serious themes the programme has its funny moments, for example when the era of the hippies begins. I find it very interesting that it deals with the current things of those times. The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, John F. Kennedy´s murder, the Vietnam War, the hippies and the status of woman are things which come up in episodes. It really makes you think what it would be like to be a young woman in those days. It´s hard to success in career and everyone is expecting you to get married and have kids. Almost every man in the series cheats his wife and woman should just be pretty housewife and not to interfere in his husband´s doings. What I like in Mad Men that there are also strong and independent female characters.

Characters are interesting and actors are amazingly talented. No wonder that Mad Men has won many awards: 15 Emmys and 4 Golden Globes. It has also received many other nominations and awards from different organizations such as the American Film Institute and the British Academy Television Awards. The plot is well written, actors are excellent and culture and society of the 1960s US is fascinating. This TV-series is absolutely worth watching!

Eight Below

For the first time I watched this movie about eight year ago, and I remember when I first saw the movie trailer, that I immediately wanted to see it. “Eight Below is the most amazing story of survival, friendship, and adventure ever told” (this is from theatrical release poster) and it truly is. This is the one of the most touching and heartbreaking movie that I have seen. Maybe it’s because I love animals and this kind of movies always makes me cry, hah.

Eight Below is American family drama adventure film directed by Frank Marshall and written by David DiGilio. It was released theatrically on February 17, 2006, by Walt Disney Pictures in the United States. The film was filmed in Svalbard, Norway, Greenland, and British Columbia, Canada. Leading actors of the film is Paul Walker, Bruce Greenwood, Moon Bloodgood and Jason Biggs.

Eight Below is based on a true story and it’s a remake from the 1983 Japanese film Antarctica which is inspired by the 1958 ill-fated Japanese expedition to Antarctica. Eight Below adapts the events of the 1985 incident, moved forward to 1993, but the real story is more brutal and Eight Below is the lighter version of it. So, the movie is telling about Jerry Shepard (Paul Walker) which is a guide at an Antarctica for the group of explorers. When the storm hits in the Antarctica, Jerry is forced to leave his eight faithful sled dogs in the middle of the storm and it soon becomes apparent that no rescue will be attempted until the next spring. Movie is also telling the story from the dog’s perspective of what it’s like to be alone in the mercy of the storm and frost, without any assistance. And this is where begins the battle of life and death.

The views of the movie was just amazing and it’s incredible that filming this movie, was used thirty different dog acting eight dogs, and they were doing all kind of stunts and needed to travel all over the world because the movie has been filmed different countries. The dogs did absolutely the best role execution if you can say so.
I believe that many of you aren’t interested about seeing this film, and many may have already seen this, but if you haven’t seen this and you like this kind of movies you definitely have to watch this. I can bet that this is a movie worth of seeing, even if you’re toughie or a crybaby. I can say that I’m the crybaby every time when I see sad movies especially if there any animals dying and this wasn’t exception. Still this is the one of the best movies I have seen and this also includes one of my favorite actor, Paul Walker. Maybe the greatest thing about this movie is that this is a true story (although it’s a modified version of the original story). Some dogs really have live alone in frozen Antarctic and survived from it (just two of the fifteen survived). The plot isn’t so surprising but Eight Below has something that touches me. Just incredible animals, whose every moment and gesture you’re following with great interest.

So, is this just a sad movie about dogs dying in Antarctic? No, this is the movie about friendship, loyalty and courage.

Tales from Earthsea

I choose the movie ”Tales from Earthsea”, because it’s one of my favourite movies. I have seen it a couple of times before and i love animation movies, which has been done in Japan like this movie is. Tales from Earthsea is an original Japanese animation movie and it has been released first time in Japan in 2006. Tales from Earthsea bases on Ursula K. Le Guinins same named fantasybook. I have not readed that book, but I think that it could be good book to read, especially when you have watched this movie. This is a fantasy movie: there is dragons and magicians. All those little and very precise things, like well- drawn dragons, just makes a wonderful movie. Also all those soundtracks are so touching and sometimes they are sad. This movie has been directed by Goro Miyazaki, who is a son of one worlds famous animator, Hayao Miyazaki.

Characters are so distinict but still they look like they belong together. The main character, prince Arren, had killed his own father and then he left on his own journey. There are also more characters but they are morre like supporting characters. I think that all characters are equally good and they cannot be compared to each other. Because this movie is an original Japanese animation, it has been drawed from beginning to the end. It’s not like animation on nowadays, which is more like wax dolls and all made with computer. I love Japanese animation, because they are drawed and it makes them perfect movies. The drawingspot is precise and there are many details that makes creatures very impressive. I like that style.

In this movie, special effects are like flames and glowing and those effects just makes the scene more impressive. For example Arren’s sword glows when he drags it out from it’s sheath. The effects are very nice, I like those too. Tales from Earthsea- movie’s genre is Japanese animation. This is Studio Ghibli’s DVD- video, as like others Japanese animation movies. I love these animations and I have been watching them for 10 years already. Every movie is different and I like all those, what I’ve ever seen. And this, Tales from Earthsea, is one of my favourite animations.

Uriah Heep

The 9. June 2014 was the day for a legendary rock band Uriah Heep to come to Pori to play at Promenadikeskus. There isn’t any rock concerts very often at all, so it was a great chance for me to enjoy the music I like.
The band was popular many many years ago. Nevertheless I was a bit surprised, because there weren’t almost any other people in my age except a friend that I had asked to come with me. But now when I think better about it,  it is easy to understand. The most people were in age of my parents and my father has liked this band when he was young.
I have nothing to compare with, but I think Uriah Heep has played just like so many years ago. I was happy to have a chance to hear the song “Lady in Black” played live. It’s a song, which everyone can play on the guitar. Many of my friends don’t want to hear this song anymore, because it’s always played in the school. I think it’s a bit sad, because I think it’s a great song.
For the feeling of a rock concert it is not so good, that everyone has a seat to sit on. Even though the most people didn’t sit on their seats at all, because the band wanted so, was the feeling not that feeling you think you find in a rock concert.
Anyway, I liked the concert very much and it was worth seeing and listening to. I knew the older songs better, but the new ones sounded good too. It was a bit suprising, that they had just released a new album. Somehow I had thought they wouldn’t do new songs anymore, because I hadn’t seen any new albums for years. In the fact the newer albums are just not so popular. I didn’t have any memories with these songs, like so many others there, especially with the older ones I guess but I could enjoy the good music anyway and it’s the most important I think.
