The movie Confessions of a shopaholic is a romantic comedy that’s based on the two first books of the Shopaholic book serie written by Sophie Kinzella. There’s just one movie even though there are seven Shopaholic books. The movie is directed by P.J Hogan and it’s published 2009.
The movie starts with a little sneak back to Rebeccas(Isla Fisher) childhood. Her mother always bought her cheap and ugly clothes and that explains why Rebecca as an adult is like she is. As you can guess from the movie name Rebecca is a shopaholic. The movie is all about following her life. She gets a job from a finansial magazine, but infact she doesn’t care or know anything about finansial things. She wanted the job just to get easier to work for a fashion magazine. She has a problem because she has a lot of debt. During the movie she tries to solve her problems but at the same time she falls in love with her boss Luke(Hugh Dancy). Rebecca is really energetic and a little silly. During te movie she struggels with meny funny things.
The movie is a bit predictable. It followed pretty mutch the formul of the romantic comedy genre. It’s almost always the same: the main character has a problem and at some point she or he falls in love and after all gets the problem solved. While watching this movie you don’t have to think all the time and try to understand the ”message” of the movie. The movie topic isn’t emotive and doesen’t really try to amaze the viewer. The acters are really good and they are credible and look good together. And for a finnish watcher the movie is very funny because there is quite much references to Finland and one finnish actor(Janne Virtanen).
I myself like to watch this kind of movies. It’s just nice to watch a funny film where you can laugh and it’s also nice because of watching the clothes that the actors use. Because it’s a comedy and not for example a fantasy movie there aren’t any massive speciall effects but the movie was made good . Some of comedys are made so that they look a little cheap and i think that that kind of movies are really easily movies that people don’t want to watch till the end. I would deffinetly watch more Shopaholic movies if they were made. For people who want to watch movies wich have a meaning this movie perhaps isn’t the right decision but for people who want to watch ”nonsense” movies this might be a good one. In my opinion this movie is directed more to girls than boys.
