English 5 has now started. The course will open up windows to culture and art in the English- speaking world. The themes covered are broadly: the cinema, visual arts, literature and music. Open Road 5 begins with the theme films, and texts 1 and 2 provide you with material on the world of cinematic art.
Your first task is to write an analysis of a film.
Some guidelines for the reviews:
Write what you think about the film! You can write about the plot but plot summaries are not the main thing. Write in such a way that your friends will want to read your post. Think about the themes, the greatness of the film and the features that make it worthwhile watching.
Use sources, read about the films, learn more about film genres, and use descriptive vocabulary.
For genres, study this link. For reviews by others, the international movies database is one portal you can use. More information in Open Road 5 p. 128-129
Then an important note: you must not copy what others have written. Surely this is not the first time you’ve heard about plagiarism. A rule of thumb is to read for inspiration, make notes, and then produce your own text. Read the blog assignment page which has instructions and the grading criteria in this blog. If you plagiarise, you will be penalized!
