The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games is a book written by Suzanne Collins. The book tells about Panem which includes rich Capitol and twelve poorer districts. The Capitol has decided to arrange The Hunger Games once a year. Every district needs to raffle two tributes to participate The Hunger Games. The tributes are taken to an outdoor arena, which is controlled by the Capitol. In the arena they have to fight against each other until there is only one person alive.

The protagonist and the narrator of the story is a 16-year-old girl, Katniss Everdeen, from District 12. She volunteered to be a tribute because her sister, Primrose Everdeen, was chosen to participate in the Hunger Games. Katniss is a very talented hunter and handles a bow delicately. She is also very determined and productive.

Peeta Mellark is the antagonist. He is the other tribute from District 12. He falls in love with Katniss during The Hunger Games and protects her in any way that it is possible. There are also other antagonist, like Haymitch Abernathy who is the mentor of Peeta and Katniss during The Hunger Games.

The main conflict of the novel is that Katniss is trying to fight against the Capitol. She nearly manages to win, but the Capitol is still leading Panem. As Katniss is trying to protest against Capitol, the Capitol thinks she is a thread and takes her as a target because she defied Capitol publicly.

The message of the novel for me is, that the more money and wealthy you have, the move power it gives to you. The wealthy people of the Capitol tries to dominate the lives of the poorer people living in the districts. But one strong people among the poor people can change everything and fight for everyone in the districts.
