Why, Honey?

I read Raymond Carver’s story ”Why, honey?” and I did this analysis about it, I used to help
questions from book.

When the mother heard that her son was maybe cut up Trudy, she first suspected but then she believed accusations. This cut up case only neighbors words were evidence, so I don’t keep them so accurate. I think that son’s mother did too rash conclusion about her son.

Son came home and told that he did get 80 dollars check and mother found from his pocket only 28 dollars, only thing she did get on her mind was that he lied or he were spent it something useless. This time too I think that mother was unreasonable, what if he had some good explanation where he spent his money or what if all money wasn’t on his pocket.

Mother was always worried about her son when he was gone, when she found knife full of blood and when she heard he has quiet his job, I think concern was absolutely right. Young people are use to lost with wrong society and try different things, good and bad…

At her last section she told that she wants to know how letter receiver had found her name and knew what to write about. I think that mother is desperate and she shame accusations about her son but still wants somebody to know her story. She also wanted to know why letter receiver had contacted her, why wanted to know the story?

Letter receiver was man, it shows at the begin ”Dear sir”, there is no other thing that shows it. I believe that mother writes letter to somebody who knows her son but mother herself doesn’t know him. Receiver was maybe on upper, that shows from letters end ”yours truly”. Receiver also may be close with son, because he is interested about what happened between mother and son and why they aren’t connected with each other.

Text was hard to construe and writer had left much to think to reader. Text doesn’t say issues directly and it’s confused, things jumps to other and back so it can be construed so many ways.

Why honey

I read Why, Honey? by Raymond Carver.
It tells about a mother who is in awkward situtation. His son is a normal kid who is doing great in school, sometimes boy occurs with outbursts. Suddenly , when the boys puberty arrives he starts to get very creepy. Familys cat disappears , next day after the disappearence mother finds out that the son had something to do with the cat disappearing .  Moms neightbour tells that the she saw the boy with firecrackers and him putting the firecracks in the trudys (trudy was the cat) ears and god knows where else . Mother asks about the event from the son  , the boy acts very surprised but that night also says that dont take it too hard, mom.
Son gets to work afternoons and saturdays as a stockboy, when his paycheck arrives he lies about the amount of money he had gained. His mother finds this behaviour very strange. Mother starts to get worried about his child . He comes up with questions like ; why does his boy lie to her? What kind of satisfaction the boy gets for lying to her mother?
Boy obtains a gun and a knife , her mother is very much against his decision to obtain them.
One saturday night boy didnt come home . Mother worried herself into sleep . Next sunday the mother wanted to know what had happened on the saturday night . Mother found that the boys boots were dirty , she asked about that and boy answered he had run out of gas.
Mother wanted to know more , she took the car keys while the boy was in shower. Mother found out that the gun and the knife was in the trunk , that was normal but then there was an shirt full of blood.
Couple days later the boy got kicked out of his workplace.
One night mother had not been able to sleep , he heard the boy pulling home . Mother asked would the boy have a cup of tea but the boy just freaked and said very rudely . Mother had to cry herself to sleep.
Mother decided to ask about why the boy was doing such things, the boy freaked out and said that the mother would have to kneel for him . Boy left the house that night.
Later the mother started to see his boys name in tv and newspapers. The boy was got into politics , he ran for governor and got elected.
Mother tells that she should be proud of his son, but he isnt. She is afraid that he is now being spied . Mother is so afraid of his son that she had to change her phone adress to an unlisted one ,home adress, and even her name.

Why, Honey?

I read Why, Honey? by Raymond Carver. The story is about just a normal mother. Mothers always think their own child only good things, like the mother of this. It started when the boy was 15 years old. The family cat was lost and days later neighbor told the mother that the boy had killed by it. Mother couldn’t believe it. She couldn’t believe it until when the boy was caught lying and the cover-up. Boy got angry outbursts and eventually moved away from home. Mother was afraid of still child. She changed all the old life, the phonenumber, the name….

I think mother’s claims were reasonable. Mother’s are concerned about their own children. It is part of their nature. I think the mother has been right. It is not too much to ask that the boy would have told the truth. I think the narrator is a mother who wrote a letter.  The narrator’s information is reliable. Mother had suffered from large pain, she had to share the pain and share it with someone.

Why, Honey?

Why, Honey? is a short story by Raymond Carver. It is a dark and cold description of a single mother who lives with her son. After years of getting good grades at school, the son starts acting weird, and soon mother’s worries arise. He buys a shotgun and a knife, and the family’s cat, Trudy, dies under suspicious conditions. The mother suspects that the boy is lying all the time. The boy eventually moves out after his mother confronts him over a bloody t-shirt, and as to why he has been out so late recently. He also accuses her of spying.

The letter is addressed to an unknown, presumably male person, who has written to the mother once before. The mother describes how after leaving the home her son joined the marines, got married, got into politics and became a governor. She hasn’t seen him ever since he left the house.

The story ends with the mother’s paranoid descriptions of how she thinks she’s constantly being spied on. She has also moved, changed her name and gotten an unlisted phone number. She ought to be proud of her son, yet she is constantly afraid.

I feel the mother is actually mentally sick and delusional. There is no mention of a murder nor a killer on the loose anywhere in the story. Nothing can be proved. Also, most likely, the unknown man who has written to her is probably her son.

Full Stop

I read Full Stop by Alecia McKenzie. The story is about Granma Scottie and  her grandchild Carmen sending letters to each other. Grandmother Scottie sends her letters without commas or full stops. She believes in god and thinks she is safe from everything evil cause of her faith. Scottie has raised Carmen and her brother because their mother could not afford it by herself. When Carmen answers to Scottie`s letters she always sends money for her to different things. Carmen`s brother rarely writes to Scottie or sends any money.
When you read the first letters  that Grandma Scottie and Carmen sends to each other i feel  that Scotties character is really strict, bossy and stubborn. When Carmen feels so understanding, kind and helpfull. Sometimes I get a feeling that Scottie uses Carmen for advantage because she always makes a new excuse to ask for money. I think there is something mean about Grandma Scottie.
Carmen doesn`t keep any contact with her mother even though her mother sends letters to her. Scottie calls Carmen`s mother a snake but still hopes that they would be in touch. In the last letters Carmen`s mother shows up to her place and tells a version about how things went when Carmen and her brother were little. I find that story very strange because comparing it to what Scottie tells it is completely different. I can`t tell wich one is the truth but I have to say that Carmen`s mother`s story sounds quite truthful to me. Somehow Scottie`s story  just doesn`t sound like things would have gone that way.
It might be even the reason why Carmen`s brother doesn`t write to Grandma Scottie. Maybe he knows the truth about his mother and Scottie. Or then he just doesn`t want to write because he can`t afford sending always money.

A Shocking Accident

A Shocking Accident is a short story written by Graham Greene. The story tells about a boy Jerome whose father gets hit by a pig and dies. Jerome is quite young when this happens. Jerome’s housemaster Mr. Wordsworth tells him the news. After telling the to Jerome Mr. Wordsworth quickly goes to the window and turns his back on Jerome. Jerome doesn’t know the reason for this. I have a feeling that his was going to start to laugh and tried to hide it. Telling about Jerome’s father’s death was hard to Jerome. People used to be amused when he tried to tell the story. He had two ways to tell the story:  keep the story short or try to make an interesting story really boring.

Jerome doesn’t really know much about his father. Nevertheless he worshipped him. His father used to travel a lot and didn’t spend much time home. Jerome thought his father was a member of the British Secret Service. When growing up Jerome realized he was not. Jerome still respected his father.

Good night everyone !

Jerome grows up, meets and nice girl called Sally and gets engaged, and lives a normal life. He hasn’t told the story of the death of his father to Sally because he is afraid how Sally would react. Jerome doesn’t also want Sally to meet his aunt, with whom Jerome lived after the death of his father. When Sally finally meets the aunt and the aunt tells the story to Sally, Sally reacts exactly the way Jerome wanted: She was horrified and didn’t laugh. Also Sally’s question ”What happened to the pig” made Jerome happy because it was the same one Jerome asked when he heard the way his father died. And what happened to the big ? The story doesn’t tell. I have a feeling it got eaten with good wine and cheese.

Why, honey?

The short story ”Why, honey” by Raymond Carver was a story about a mother
and her son, and the son didn’t have a father in the text. The son had been
strange pretty much all his life, especially his teen age.  The boy had
been lying about everything and after the son bought a shotgun and knife
mum freaked out.

After mum found t-shirt full of blood she got enough and moved away and
changed her adress, name and phone number and pretty much everything.
Mum saw her boy gaining land on politics and achieving thing in his life
and big letters in magazines tellimg about it. She thought that she should
be the proudest mother in the country but no, she’s only afraid. She saw a
man staring at her from a car and ran to her house and locked doors. She
thinks she is under spying but there no really evidence.

I think the mother is writing to her son. Its pretty obivous because as the
mother said ” if you have resources it is easy to find someone” and thats
prety much what is happening. Boy hated mums spying. Now the boy is spying
on his mom.
I don’t think the book as realiable one. Mum couldn’t trust his son but
then she is telling story of her life to anonymous person.

Why, Honey?

I read short story ”Why Honey” which is written by Raymond Carver. The whole story is a letter from worried mom, a letter in which she describes her whole life with strangely behaving and lying teenager boy. Receiver of the letter is unknown man, who has written first for this mother. The letter starts out, Dear Sir, and ends with, how did you find me?

The mother goes on to explain what a liar her son was, and that growing up he lied almost constantly. There is no father figure in this story. The son was first a normal boy who always got good grades. But when he turned fifteen he started to lie in every case. His mother just cant understand why her son lies to her in topics like how much he earned money in work. because of plenty of son’s lies, little by little her mother seems to assume that whatever her son is doing, is something criminal. when her son buys a hunting knife and shooting gun, her doubts was confirmed. She also finds a bloody shirt from her son’s car. Son didn’t want that his mother is always spying him, so he moved away.

In the letter, when the son had left, the mother describes how she read all the things about his son in the papers: how he take part to the marines, married a girl, got himself into politics, and was elected as a governor. The mother didn’t ever seen her son after he went away.

In the end of letter the mother describes how she is afraiding all the time and how she moved away and changed her address and got a secret phonenumber. In my opinion the mother was much too suspicious of everything. The son haven’t done anything what can be proved, and it was mother’s own fault that her son left her. But I think that one unknown man who first wrote to the mother and to whom mother is now writing, is her son.

Harrison Bergeron

This novel tells about year 2081 when law orders that everybody have to be equal. If you are clever or more beautiful than others you have to cover it with handicappers like birdbacks which limit your moving or transmitters which limit your thinking with nasty sounds. Nowdays people want to be same mass as others. People are easily jealous when somebody other is better than you. Novel wants to remind that if there are no talented people, life wouldn’t be so interesting. Then you are not allowed to be good at something. Handicappers can be analyzed to society’s pressure when somebody has heavier burden than others.

The main characters are George and Hazel Bergeron. Their fourteen-year-old son Harrison Bergeron is in prison because of his athletic abilities and his cleverness. Hazel is typical normal person who is not handicapped. She is little simple and stupid but maybe she is like that because when she was little she maybe was couraged to act that way. George is realist and negative man who is forced to use handicaps. Handicaps make him depressed but he has given up his hope long time ago.

Harrison is different than others. He wants to make a change and stop peoples suffers. He is still young but age is not a limit. He was taken to prison when he was four so his time in prison must have been very traumatic for him. He is maybe little mad but actually he is more clever than others because he wants to stop equality law and he is not just thinking about it he is going to do it.

It’s a normal day when George and Hazel watch television program were balletdancers dance. Hazel starts to cry and actually she doesn’t know why. Maybe she remembers time when handicappers were not exists. Normal people maybe don’t know about other peoples suffer but they secretly hope that others would be themselves. That’s why Hazel suggest that George would lighten his birdback little. But George doesn’t want to do that because he would go jail if somebody finds out that. He doesn’t want to face same fate as his son.

Suddenly bulletin appears to screen. Their son has escapen from the jail. Harrison runs to ballet studio and announces that he is an emperor and everybody must obey him. He asks does somebody want to be his empress and one of the most beautiful dancer rises. He freedoms ballet dancers and musicians and then everybody start to dance happily. Suddenly Handicapper General appears and shoots the dancer and Harrison. Shooting is way to say that nobody should not try same. Even if they only shoot dancer and Harrison the greater crime was that they take all the hope from other people and their own freedom was taken too.

When George and Hazel saw Harrison’s dead they were not shocked they just were quiet and tried to pretend that nothing happened. Even sadder was to see people’s happiness when they were not handicapped. They don’t want to talk about it because they know that anything like this wouldn’t happen ever again.

The last spin

I read the last spin. The last spin is a novel written by Eva hunter. The last spin tells about two men who are playing russian roulette. They were on different clubs so they were enemies. The boys name was Tigo and Danny. While they were playing they becomes friends but in the end danny takes the last shot and dies.Tigo was so shocked that starts weeping and the story ends.

Danny and Tigo were playing russian roulette bcause their clubs have some ”event” to Danny and Tigo.Tigo wanted start the game first so he would gave a break to danny.Danny was told to tigo that he is a new member on dannys club.I think Tigo wanted to make it quick because danny is new gangster and Tigo wanted to show how he is ready to anything. While they were playing they started to see that they have lot of common things.Tigo added some extra bullets to gun so the game would end faster but whenever he added one extra bullet they get know each other more and more.they were becaming friends.Tigo and Danny havent met before what is odd.In street fights or club meetings not in a single place. In the end they decide to stop the maddnes. It was Dannys turn to make the final shot.In gun was 3 bullet which mean that is 50 % change to get killed or staying alive. They decided to meet at sunday but when Danny take the shot it was the last thing on life what danny do.He died in front of Tigo smileing at him.

The strory was sad and ironic about two men who just wanted to end the game without dying. At first they didnt want to get know by each other but they couldnt stop the beginning firendship.Tigo and Danny are common guys who maybe didnt know what they are doing on the clubs and why?At the end of story they wanted to end their jobs on club and start a new better life but it was too late and Danny dies.
