Joulutarina is a finnish movie which tells a story about the birth of Santa Claus. Nikolas is a 7-year-old boy from a little village in Lappland who tragically loses his parents and little sister when they fall into ice. The people of the village are quite poor and none of them can take Nikolas with them, so they decide that he will change the family once a year. Nikolas is very good in whittling things of wood and because he always moves at Christmas time, he decides to whittle a little toy for the children of the families he has been in. After six years the villagers are getting poorer and poorer and Nikolas has to move outside of the village with a scary carpenter, Iisakki. After a while, Nikolas and Iisakki make friends and Iisakki lets Nikolas work in his workshop. Time goes by, but still every Christmas Nikolas brings presents for the children. When Iisakki passes, Nikolas gets his savings and starts to widen his function and becomes a full-time Santa. He buys red clothes and trains reindeer to lead his sleigh. Now Nikolas only shows up once a year, at Christmas Eve as Santa Claus. When Nikolas ages, he decides it’s time to stop. He disappears, but his legacy won’t die, because the men of the village decide to continue the tradition of delivering presents at Christmas.

The film is starred by Finnish top actors. There are three actors acting Nikolas as different ages; Nikolas as a child is performed by Jonas Rinne and Otto Gustavsson, and Nikolas as an adult is Hannu-Pekka Björkman. The other actors are Kari Väänänen as Iisakki, Mikko Kouki as Nikolas’s best friend Eemeli, Mikko Leppilampi as Eemelis father Hannus, Laura Birn as Eemeli’s daughter Aada and Antti Tuisku as Aadas husband Mikko.The scriptwriter of the film is Marko Leino (Vares, Matti) and it’s based on the novel by Aku Louhimies, Marko Leino and Juha Wuolijoki who is also the director of the movie.

The scenes have a big part in the movie, and that’s no wonder. The location of the film, Lappland is amazing. There are mountains, forests and enormously snow. That may be one reason why Joulutarina has got a Finnish Jussi award of the best shooting and as the public’s favourite.

This movie is a very touching story about Santa Claus and I would recommend it to everybody who loves Christmas and isn’t afraid of crying when watching a movie!

A Perfect World is a fictional drama film. It was filmed in 1993, mostly in Texas. The movie is directed by Clint Eastwood, who also plays a big part in this very movie. The film takes place in Texas year 1963.

In the beginning of movie two convicts, Butch Haynes (Kevin Costner) and Terry Pugh (Keith Szarabajka), escape from prison. They have to take a hostage who ends up to be a little Jehova’s witness called Phillip (T.J. Lowther). Butch has to get rid of Terry by shooting him becouse Terry tried to molest the kid. On their journey to Alaska the two of them develope a father-son relationship becouse neither one of them has ever had a such thing. Both of their fathers had left them when they were young. Haynes only thinks about Phillip’s best and the boy ends up having the time of his life. He lets the boy do what his religion doesn’t allow him to do. Meanwhile they are being chaced by the police. The sheriff Red Garnett (Clint Eastwood) is after them with his team and a ciminologist Sally Gerber (Laura Dern). When the manhunt goes on further Garnett understands he was the one to put Haynes in prison in his youth and that resulted in Haynes becoming a criminal. At the end of the movie Haynes gets killed by a too eager policeman. Garnett realases that Haynes wasn’t as bad man as everyone had thought.

As I wrote, Haynes had to go to prison becouse of Garnett. Haynes had stolen a car and therefore he was sentenced for four years of prison. He was supposed to become a good guy but he couldn’t stay away from the trouble. As Haynes says he only kills for a reason. First when mother was in danger and when Phillip was in danger. It tells a lot about their relationship which developes during the film. The criminologist sees the good in Haynes which Garnett isn’t willing to admit at first. He didn’t want to give up to a woman which is also a subject that is being taken a stace on in this film.

I think the casting is done very succesfully. Eastwood and Costner are obviously very talented and experienced actors but the greatest impression on me made the little boy. Considering his age, Lowther did a great job. It can’t be easy to stand out between Costner and Eastwood. Costner is known from many movies such as Dances with the Wolves and Waterwold. Eastwood is know for many reasons: he has acted and directed many films such as A Fistful of Dollars (The Dollar Trilogy). He has also won many awards.

The music of this movie done by Lennie Niehaus. The musics aren’t too out there and they really suit the movie. There has also been released a soundtrack of this movie. Eastwood himself has also composed one of the songs.

This movie is probably my favorite movie and I recommend it to everyone.

The plot: T.J is a young boy who lives with his father, Paul and grandmother, Madeleine. His mother died in a car crash. Paul is addicted  to pills so Madeleine is doing all housework. T.J is trying to buy his mother’s car back and when the car seller doesn’t give it to him, he gets angry and breaks a window of a house where a man called Hesher lives. (The house is not Hesher’s). Next day when T.J is coming home from school Hesher follows him and starts living there. T.J hates Hesher and tries to get him to move away but Hesher won’t leave. Hesher sets T.J’s bully’s car on fire and T.J is blamed for that. Hesher also ruins someone’s backyard and T.J is almost blamed for that too. Hesher becomes Madeleine’s friend and in her funeral he steals her coffin. T.j is really mad at Hesher and tells him to never come back. When Paul and T.J gets back home they see T.J’s mother’s car there and their roof has a painting that says ”Hesher was here” They seem really happy that Hesher is never coming back but they learned from him and they become closer.

Characters: Main character is T.J (Devin Brochu) who is a young boy and he is really depressed. Hesher (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) is homeless person who moves in with T.J’s family. There aren’t any big names in Hesher except Natalie Portman but her character isn’t important in movie. other characters are T.J’s father, Paul, T.J’s grandmother Madeleine, school bully Dustin.

Soundtrack: Hesher’s soundtrack is really unique because Metallica doesn’t usually let use their music but when they saw the film and noticed how much Hesher reminded their former bassist Cliff Burton they gave permission to use their music. In a movie there is also one song from Motörhead.

Genre: Hesher is a drama but there is also a lot of black humor in it.

Titanic is a romanticdrama movie directed and written by James Cameron. The movie is based on a truestory, but it`s been filled with many fictional things, but  it`s a fact that a ship Titanic really sank in 1912.

Plot summary: It`s year 1997 and a group of ”treasure hunters” are looking for very rare diamond necklace that lies insiside the wreck. They find a painting of a young  RoseDeWitt Bukater ( Played by Kate Winslet) from the place that the necklace should have been.  Old Rose comes to take a closer look of that painting. She is one of the lucky survivors of sinking of titanic. In this picture she has the diamond that the group is looking for. Old Rose starts to tell a story of what happened at that ship: She was a fine woman, with a rich fiancé and she had treatment like a queen her self. But inside she was screaming because she didn`t really loved her fiance Caledon. A young man named Jack Dawson (Played by Leonardo DiCaprio) had just few minutes before the departure won two tickets to titanic with his friend Fabrizio. Jack was modest, poor and handsome young man.

Rose was thinking of jumping of the deck and killing herself because she was  unhappy with her life. Then Jack appeared and saved her life. Caledon invites Jack to diner with the ” better people” . After the dinner Jack and Rose party secrately together. They start to spend time together, despite their class difference. Caledon sends servants to look for his bride. Jack and Rose escaped servants and hooked up with each other, just before the the ship hit an the iceberg.  There was an absolute chaos at Titanic, after the hit with iceberg. Not enough rescue boats to everyone. Rich were rescued first, Rose didn`t follow her mother and went looking for Jack that Caledon had been left to drown. Rose was successful in saving Jack from the shackles. They were finally together again and the boat started to lean and the snaped in half.

They hit the ice cold water, a lot of people drowned, they finally found each other then they swam to some large piece of wood, but unfortunately it couldn`t support both of them at the same time. Rose climed on it and Jack remained at cold water. Eventually Jack were too frozen to hold on any longer, then he had to let go. Before that they confessed love to ech other. Rose was saved by a rescue boat.

The story ended, It had touched all members of the ”treasure hunters”. They had to live with that fact that Caledon had took the diamond, before the ship sank. At night old Rose comes to the deck of treasure hunters boat and tought of that cruise with jack and suddenly takes the diamond drom her pocket and throws it to the water. She`d had that diamond necklace all along.

The soundtarck of this movie is composed by James horner. The soundtrack is beautiful ,very touching, and it has won 11 awards all over the wold and it´s one of the best selling albums ever wolrd wide. The most famous song of that album is ”My heart will go on” made famous by Celine Dion. I think that thats one of the best songs ever made.

Casting of this film is ”pure gold.”  Names like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet really speak from them-selves…

Titanic has been a the and will be the blockbuster of lifetime. Even here in Finland it had over one million viewers. The movie  has established in it`s own genre and in every other genre an iconic reputation.

I would totally recommend this movie to anyone, specially to people who are fallen in love.

Slumdog millionaire is a 2008 British drama. The film has won 8 Oscars, 7 BEFTA awards, 5 Critics’ Choice Awards and 4 Golden Globes. The film is based on Vikas Swarups novel, Q & A. The film is directed by Danny Boyle, it’s written by Simon Beaufoy and it’s producer is Cristian Colson. The major parts are performed by Dev Patel and Freida Pinto. The Film is based on the show ‘’Who wants to be a millionaire?’’.

Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) was street child from slum called Juhu. After his mother died by the Bombay Riots, he became orphan with his brother Salim. Then Jamal met Latika (Freida Pinto), the other leading actor. They were found by Maman (Ankur Vikal), a local gangster who cheats and trains street kids into becoming panhandlers. For example he made the kids blind and forced kids to beg money for their food. When they found it out, they tried to escape from the Maman by train. Salim and Jamal manages to escape but Latika tries to take Salims hand but Salim intentionally lets go. Over the next few years Salim and Jamal lived by doing little crimes like stealing shoes from Taj Mahal and selling them. Because Jamal wanted, they returned back to Mumbay to find Latika. Finally they found Latika, and saved her from brothel and Salim killed Maman. When they arrived their hotel room, Salim told Jamal to leave him and Latika alone. Years later Jamal worked in a tea server at an Indian call centre. Jamal tried to find Salim and Latika from call centres database. He managed to find Salim, and they reunited, and Salim was sorry for all the bad things he had done in the past. After all he also found Latika. Then Jamal was managed to get in the show ‘’Who wants to be a millionaire?’’. Latika was watching the show and saw Jamal. In the show Jamal uses his lifeline ‘’Phone-A-Friend’’ and called Latika. Despite all the troubles and adversities Jamal won the grand prize and became a millionaire. After all, Salim dies and Latika and Jamal lived together.

Dev Patel (Jamal Malik) was born in April 1990. He is an successful English actor. He plays a poor street child in Mumbay and as he grows up he gets away from the slum with his brother Salim. At the end of the movie he won a million dollar and became a famous millionaire. Madhur Mittal (Salim Malik) was born in 1987. He is an Indian actor. In the movie he plays Jamals big brother. He also grew up in the slum. His personality was more aggressive and heated than Jamals personality. At the end of the movie Salim killed himself. Freida Pinto (Latika) was born in October 1984. She is an Indian actress and model. In the movie Jamal and Salim found her from the street. She was shy and delicate little girl. Her tough life is the thing that make her stronger. Ankur Vikal (Maman) is an Indian film and theatre actor. In the movie he plays a gangster who blinded kids to make them beg more. He was the bad guy of the film.
The soundtrack of the movie is Jai Ho originally A.R Rahmans song, but after that The Pussycat Dolls and A.R Rahman made a new version of it. The song is known all around the world, and it has won Academy Award for the Best Original Song, Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, and also Television or Other Visual Media. The song was also the official campaign song of the Indian National Congress during the 2009 election.

A drama film is a genre that deals with deep developments and realistic characters with emotions. Dramatic themes can be for example: poverty, class divisions, violence against women and corruption. The movie is a great example of drama. It has many of those features that drama includes.
